eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Screenshot from a section of eBay UK's r User Privacy Notice.
It reads:
AI model training

When training, testing, and improving generative AI models, we rely primarily on publicly available data. Some public datasets may incidentally include personal data, and in some cases we may also use certain user personal data, such as information about your use of our Services, including the items you list, sell, view, or buy, where we determine it is necessary and proportionate for a specific use (for example, to train AI models that improve product recommendations). Prior to training, we take steps to mitigate potential privacy impacts, such as de-identifying the data or applying other privacy-preserving techniques. In some jurisdictions, the data used for training as described in this section is not considered personal data; where our AI training does involve personal data as defined under applicable law, including in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the legal basis of our legitimate interest is set out in section 3.4.

See section 6 for more details on your rights. To learn more about specific training use cases and our processing of your personal data for generative AI training purposes, including the right to object to such processing for certain users, visit our Artificial Intelligence at eBay page.

If the people working at Anthropic et al sincerely believe that GenAI will kill 10% of humanity in the next decade, why can't we try them for conspiracy to murder?

I mean, to be fair to the tech industry, if you had invested $1.5 trillion in me over the last three years, I also probably would've failed to produce AGI and committed a bunch of crimes.

The 5 Simpsons lines I've uttered most of the top of my head. 1. Are you some kind of moron? 2. I declare mob rule. 3. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. 4. Wont somebody think of the children. 5. But Marge, I swear I never thought you'd find out.

The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head: 1. I… Don’t… Know. 2. Abortions for some. Miniature American flags for others. 3. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. 4. I don’t recall saying good luck. 5. Sleep! That’s where I’m a Viking.

If you get a billion dollars there should be big announcement, a party, a big parade, and an hour long tv special. You win! and then we throw you in jail, change the laws & financial regulations to fix the loopholes you took advantage of, and take all the money away so other kids can play the game

[redacted person who does not know whose mentions they wandered into]: In my city, the cyclists are so entitled, they act like they own the roads. Me: LET THE BIKES OWN THE ROADS. THE BIKES ARE FAR LESS DANGEROUS AND POLLUTING BY ABSOLUTELY EVERY MEASURE. MAKE THE CARS PAY TOLLS TO THE CYCLISTS.

One of the sad things about the death of writing is that we are going to be taking life advice primarily from visually attractive people now who don’t know shit. ideally you want the world filtered through awkward homunculi filled with rage who know the plural of homunculus
