Took a quick trip to Chicago last week and managed to snag a game at ballparks 18 and 19 in my quest to watch a game at all 30 parks, among other Chicago attractions.

Something that is not talked about enough in the hand wringing about public education is how we have created a "market" for teacher education where the financially "smart" way to get a credential is to enroll in an online program, which offers no modeling, mentoring, or feedback on practice.

This summer, I took myself to the beach for two days & wrote a letter to my fellow educators about “AI.” My mom asked to read it; I told her, “Not yet. Let me get another draft done.” Welp. I should have let her read the first draft because she’s not here to read this one.

A promising experience today: Students saw a short news broadcast about AI. Afterward, I asked them to raise their hands if they thought AI was making life better. Only one student out of roughly 30 did so. Then I asked how many thought AI was making life worse, and every other hand went up.

We cannot legitimize AI in education. I hope educators know they aren’t anti-progress or stuck in the past if they reject AI. There are too many ethical and educational problems with it for it to become a part of school life for any reason.

From the beginning of industrialization, including Internet and now AI, the rich and powerful look for ways to make production lean. We have to fight the idea that educating ppl is production. Learning and helping others is not production. Fight the focus on money and dehumanizing learning.

Once upon a time in this country, improving everyone’s life expectancy was a major goal. Now, public officials just shrug their shoulders at people in their care dying right and left.

The dismantling of the research apparatus that made America the science and tech giant it's been over the past century is the greatest own-goal in history. We haven't even begun to calculate or feel the losses

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years. NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."

Said it before: This was my biggest worry when I had the idea for my dissertation - I was so excited about it but also worried someone had already done it. I spent a lot of time scouring publications in my field finding anything similar. Nothing the same, but definitely helped the lit review!
