At this point I can’t tell if I’m rewatching all of Band of Brothers because it’s an excellent show or because I wanted to watch Americans humiliate Nazis but it’s probably equal measures of both

Obviously this is not true, but I actually do think some of these CEOs believe it as sort of an Atlas Shrugged escape plan kind of thing. They all know that Earth is fucked up and it is their fault and they just want to leave to their private little planet. Well you're stuck here with us fuckers.

Actual CEO of a space company people actually invest in says "by the early 2030s" -- just 5 to 7 years from now -- there will be mines and factories and large human workforce on the Moon, such that we'll be able to see lights of the lunar city from our front porches fortune.com/2026/08/17/b...

Today's daily reminder that the UAE is currently engaged in a genocide in Sudan using weapons they receive from the US and money they receive from our tourism dollars, and every celebrity who lives or vacations in Dubai or Abu Dhabi is knowingly funding it.

Just for my own nerdiness: In Omani history, they bitterly remember the British extorting the Sultan of Muscat in 1898 out of making a great deal with France for a coaling station and threatening them into relenting, and their whole thing nationally is that no one is going to do that to them again.

I got out of doing policy analysis full-time a long time ago because I thought the guy who came after Obama would be worse than Bush, but I honestly don’t know what to say about what’s happened in Trump 2. The stuff that has happened in the last 24 hours completely blows my mind for how dumb it is.

🔺BREAKING: President Trump threatens to bomb Oman ‘if it gets in the way’. The US president also told Fox News he was in ‘no hurry’ to secure a deal with Iran

Not to excuse this site’s downtime or necessarily argue against allegations of vibe coding, but it does sort of suck that building a simple Twitter-like service is easy but building one that operates at a scale of millions is very hard from a computer science and software development perspective.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how basically the entirety of what the US defense apparatus was planning for as of 2010-2015 was containing North Korea and the “pivot toward Asia” total shift and in the last couple of hours and days the rough entirety of those millions of hours of work was discarded.

Why is it always "Bluesky is dying because sometimes a Marxist replies to you" and never "Bluesky is dying because the site regularly fails to load for half-days at a time"
