> Police in Wisconsin used Flock to determine that a man “travels to Michigan frequently,” where marijuana is legal, then back to Wisconsin, where it is illegal. They then used his travel as part of the probable cause justification to search his car for weed; he was arrested on possession charges.

"The vehicle travels to Michigan frequently which is a known source state for marijuana as it is legal there," a probable cause justification reads.

There’s a restaurant in the west end that has two rooms. One says “stand up” and has two urinals. The other says “sit down” and has about 10 toilets. It’s a unisex bathroom. And you know what, it works because the people using that restaurant aren’t obsessed with other people’s junk.

The bbc is so painfully transphobic it’s funny how they do false balance for certain things but don’t even bother to hide it for others New guidance on single-sex spaces comes into force www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

*skips past all the flashing warning signs that any veteran with a brain kept saying was a huge no-go* "Oh yeah, the reason was 100% because he was a veteran. Fuck veterans. I hate everybody who served. Let's give the rapist the last word on the matter for fairness tho."

A watershed piece. America will have have a very hard time becoming less imperialist as long as combat service is sentimentalized and fetishized, when it actually tends to turn men into broken, hateful people, and helps make things like like Trumpism happen. www.newyorker.com/news/the-pol...

particularly in light of recent events I think anyone who cast a ballot for Harris in 2024 has to abandon the talking point that Cheney's endorsement cost her nothing because the alternative is a lot worse, actually

At the bookstore, I waved over a guy with an astronaut tattoo and a pride necklace. "I'm not your demographic," he said. "My book is about a female biker gang in space rescuing a gay prince," I said. "The sequel is about a sex-positive sexbot." "In space?" "In space." "I AM your demographic!"

“You’re a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, how come you don’t like Palantir?” “You’re a huge fan of 1984, how come you don’t like the surveillance state?” “You’re a huge fan of Fahrenheit 451, how come you don’t like ritual book burnings?”

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

New: We found 50 cops who misused Flock cameras and other license-plate readers for personal purposes, often to spy on their girlfriends or ex-wives. He "watched every single move I made. ... Who do you turn the chief of police in to?" wapo.st/3S6rTuo

She left her ex. He secretly tracked her through a network of policing cameras.

Flock’s array of license-plate cameras was built to fight crime. But at least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing it and other systems.

"Would my wife have cooked me dinner if I had beaten her six days ago" absolutely has to go into the Domestic Abuser quote Hall of Shame. "Look- she texted me months ago she was happy our realtionship was in a friendlier place." You fucking muppet she is terrified of you
