Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

This week I'm getting increasingly angry with the people who are determined to keep drilling for fossil fuels
I don't really talk about this, because I'm actually quite private about my personal life, but many many years ago Tony Head took me under his wing and showed me the kind of person I could be. It's not an exaggeration to say that I'm the person I am today because of the kindness he showed me.
I am obsessed with this finalist in this year's Michigan “I voted” sticker design contest
Love-in-a-mist in my garden. I'm not a great photographer but I like how this one came out.
Even violence, state or otherwise, will not stop me living my life. I will not change a single thing about how I've been living for over a decade regardless of what some new garbage "guidance" might say. If they made it illegal to breathe I'd still do it. Fuck you
It's now been 3 hours since our supposed "ally" Donald Trump threatened genocide on a country of 93 million people. We've had absolutely nothing from the UK government. This doesn't come in a vacuum either - every day the US & Israel have been murdering innocent people.
Starmer: “If you don’t like our policies you can leave.” Voters:
A man on the streets of the UK is asked about the “problem of immigration” and dismantles talking points with ease.
And as long as I'm posting again, I might as well reiterate: Trans Rights Now and Free Palestine
Good books I read this summer: The Getaway by Nicola Martin @nmartinwriter.bsky.social, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Translation State by Ann Leckie @annleckie.com
I am one of the 14 authors who chose to leave the Polari Prize, and I find myself frustrated and saddened at the way this entire story has been represented. 1/
John Boyne says LGBTQ+ fiction prize backlash brought him ‘close to the edge’
when you, years out from an election, say "i will vote for that triangulating shitbag throwing minorities under the bus because they'll still be better than the other guy" you need to understand that the triangulating shitbag is Watching You: "they'll still vote for me! no need to change course!"
Such Brave Girls season two review – this Bafta-winning comedy is startlingly brilliant

The return of this twisted tale of two troubled sisters and their mum is yet more scary, lairy and perfectly portioned comedy. It is knockout TV

Today, thousands gathered across the country - from Hastings to London to Glasgow - to say: we will always stand with trans people. Trans rights are human rights. 🏳️⚧️
BRISTOL PROTEST 2PM SATURDAY COLLEGE GREEN If you think that it's disgusting that a room full of cis people decided that trans people should have their rights stripped away, then say something!
I am really saddened by the level of vitriol and hatred being directed toward the trans community. We are losing our common humanity. How hard is it to treat people with kindness and respect? Trans people are human beings — and they deserve to live in dignity like anyone else.
My biological sex is female. It has changed Phenotype is orders of magnitude more important than genotype for everything from discrimination to healthcare to sexuality Chromosomes are meaningless and any law treating them as all sex is is wrong
Scapegoating refugees has always been a deliberate ploy by governments to distract from their own domestic failures. Pandering to Reform UK will backfire — and vulnerable people will pay the price. End dangerous crossings by opening safe routes for fellow human beings instead.
Reminder that even if you are in a category targeted by your current government (as I am, thrice over), you still have the right to enjoy as many moments of your life as possible under your circumstances. YOU contain a universe. You are so much more important than the structure that hinders you.
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce. Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.
I don’t know German but I think I understand this headline fine enough.
