And indeed, the main pullout: “The technologies are ready. The economics are favorable. The institutions exist. What the future of climate finance requires is not a new invention but an old one: the political will to match the scale of the problem.”

Carney: Wildfires are really bad and I care about the people affected by them. Me: Reminder that Carney, who says this about wildfires, has cut every relevant federal agency, is rolling back climate protections, and pushing more pipelines. Carney fans: YoU sHoULd BLaMe tEh PrEMiErS.

Canadians have accumulated nearly $3 trillion in retirement savings, yet have almost no democratic say over how that money is invested. Why are our pensions financing fossil expansion and foreign capital instead of a livable future? @nickgottlieb.bsky.social makes the case for reclaiming them.

The case for reclaiming Canada’s pension trillions

A future where Canadian workers can safely retire needs investment. Our pension funds are well positioned to provide that, but it requires a much more fundamental transformation than Carney is willing...

Heat got you down? Try some light climate reading! Here's a snippet from Very Serious Mark Carney's book Value(s). "Actions speak louder than words. Credible climate policies should cut emissions from day one to reduce the end point in carbon concentrations." (p.296).

Sure, we need progressivity in our tax system and effective enforcement. Without those, taxation loses much of its legitimacy But I don't want to depend on the ultra rich for our collective goods Their track record suggests they can't be relied upon We made the welfare state, not them. 4/

“There is no private-sector proponent for these pipelines because there is no business case in a world where electric vehicles and heat pumps powered by wind & solar energy are cheaper, cleaner and faster to deploy than the fossil fuel megaprojects that are fuelling heat waves and wildfires.” (2/2)

Every. Single. Story. about women not using AI as much as men portray it as bad for their future career prospects (without a shred of evidence) and a result of women being fearful little ladies rather than looking at AI's output and saying "this sucks, it's not going to help me."

For women, the increase of AI use in the workplace may affect their careers: Harvard study

Women are using AI significantly less then men and it’s going to have a major impact on their careers, according to extensive research on the topic.

US data centers for AI tend to run on more fossil fuels than renewables → they produce proportionally more climate pollution → which is supersizing extreme weather → which is now the #1 risk to data centers themselves. The very definition of "coming right back around to bite you."

The AI boom is colliding with a new threat: Severe weather

Heatwaves and severe weather are raising risks for AI data centers, from grid strain to higher insurance and repair costs.

The Ford government just deleted every long-term care inspection report from before 2023 from their website, obfuscating a vital public record, especially from the devastating pandemic era. But we have 10,000 of those reports, and we're making them publicly available. thelocal.to/long-term-ca...

The Ford Government Just Deleted Thousands of Long-Term Care Reports. Here They Are. | The Local

The provincial government has eliminated access to long-term care home inspection reports from before 2023. We have over 10,000 of those reports, and are restoring access to the public.

It’s our pension and our money. And it is completely failing to invest in our future. CPPIB, the people who manage how our money is invested, are choosing to invest (HEAVILY) in fossil fuel expansion and walking away from their net zero commitments.

While we wait for Season Two, here's a look back at the defined benefit pension plan all of us share: The Canada Pension Plan. Listen to the whole episode and watch for season two to drop at readysetmoney.ca

I love places with two main political parties. Every election is basically "the party in power now has failed to fix the problems caused by the party in power before. So vote for us, the party in power before."

That said, I do remain an optimist: I firmly believe that eventually, enough survivors of our age will realise that the current system where the very few have the most, and the most have almost nothing, and <gestures wildly around everything else> sucks balls and there are better ways to live.

Almost 200yrs ago, the French novelist Honoré de Balzac wrote these words: ""Le secret des grandes fortunes sans cause apparente est un crime oubli parce qu’il a été proprement fait.” "The secret behind great fortunes without an apparent cause is a crime, forgotten because it was well-executed."

Congratulations to Elon on becoming the world’s first trillionaire from London 🔥

Not a word about intellectual property theft, despite the government's own CHPC committee recommending it be addressed Gov taking the executive-class brainrot stance that AI adoption should be encouraged and funded, with no particular use-case in mind A document by and for starry-eyed suckers
