Economist, writer, strange nerd. she/her. trans. lesbian. White, anti-whiteness. Opinions solely my own. On unceded Eno territory.

And given the response to this disclosure, would many have donated if they knew how much agentic AI was involved in the process? Honestly, my real point is that this post doesn’t really explore this subject enough or with any depth beyond the surface level. I do not feel like an informed voter.

And here’s where I want you to hold my hand bc I need you to understand that I am *NOT* taking a position when I ask this question. I am thinking out loud: What is the necessity of Blacksky’s existence? Does the desire for this sort of community justify the harm of other communities?

vibe coding is not acceptable bsky is already vibe coded; if I switch and donate to Blacksky I would therefore be supporting two companies that are paying Anthropic for slop code use of these technologies and supporting the currently requisite infrastructure is indefensible

As promised, we’ve created a policy document outlining our thoughts on AI and agentic coding (AI for software development). We’re releasing a vote later this week for Blacksky community members to offer their feedback. We look forward to hearing from you all.

garbanzo! what a gift, to see other people’s pets—especially ones that tend to be shy, like cats—at their most comfortable, something we never would’ve had without pocket internet + camera + computer device 🧡🤍 (this is my personal theory of why other people’s pets media is forever popular)

on a daily basis I use my pocket computer that is significantly more powerful than the supercomputers that existed when I was in high school to show people I wouldn't have even known existed pictures of my ridiculous pets (I graduated from high school in 1994)

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

On August 3, Michigan reported two deaths associated with its cyclosporiasis outbreak. The state didn't say how either person died, how old they were, or what conditions they had. It did say both had "significant underlying health conditions." That was almost the only detail. 🧵

it's funny that this website keeps thinking that making an example of one of us will get the rest of us to simmer down and in actuality i've never been more committed to making ken jennings piss his pants and cry

If you want people to be nice when you die, don't write articles about wanting to shag year 10s. (Actually, I believe his phrasing was "probably wouldn't dabble much below year 10" - year 10 being 14/15. Note "probably" and "much" in there.) Yet another reason I'm anti-BBC.

I am saddened by the tone of commentary in this place about my former BBC colleague. The level of vitriol seems more suited to the other place. I worked with Rod at the Today programme. He took no prisoners, but he was witty and personally capable of genuine warmth. My sympathy to his family.

"The Treasury Secretary said the deal would allow freedom of movement in the strait when asked whether Iran would be allowed to charge a toll." So... they're going to be allowed to charge a toll. Trump is doing a bunch of "last chance" stuff to set the stage to surrender to Iran.

Out of all the films I watched last week, MYSTICS IN BALI (1981) was the one I looked forward to the most, but was most disappointed with. The amazing horror, SFX & Debby Cynthia Dewi couldn't save it from the awful, unbalanced pacing.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

USA TODAY Opinion@usatodayopinion.usatoday.com · 2d ago

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
