Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

my neighborhood 7-11 closed a couple years ago and tried to reopen but couldn’t get the permit approved because there’s a preschool next door and 7-11s sell alcohol (the previous permit was grandfathered in). i saw a fence going up around the lot recently and looked up what was moving in: a gun shop

Underneath solar panels, plants grew much more and used less water, "Chiltepin pepper plants produced three times as much fruit as those grown in full sun. Jalapenos matched their usual harvest while using 65 percent less water. Tomatoes grown under the array came in at twice the normal yield."

Rosie loves those T-rexes you can get from the Blue Big Box Pet Store and she rips their forearms off. So I trim the ragged remains and fold them in and use strong waxed silk thread to stitch it up. I have now become the best performer of dog toy forequarter amputations in the state.

I know you should teach your kids how to deescalate but I don’t see the issue with arming them with some zingers. If someone says “Your dreads are ugly” the appropriate response TO ME is “Your mother is ugly”

The events of the Odyssey would have been set 500 years previously at the time that Homer composed them, equivalent to writing about the voyages of Columbus today. For example Homer probably imagined Iron Age hoplite armor, while actual Bronze Age Mycenean armor looked like this:

of the dodgy odyssey takes, 'odysseus is meant to be a stoic badass unaffected by war' probably winds me up the most. in the text the king of the phaeacians correctly guesses odysseus is a veteran of the trojan war because he keeps bursting into tears whenever anyone mentions it

the hardest thing about fibro and long covid is sometimes I have the energy and desperately want to clear a backed up tasks list, but the pain is kicking in. And because of some pretty shitty BFA training I work through the pain and then regret it hugely.

As though L’Ananas de l’Enfer was not enough of a project, I just finished winding three 420 yard skeins of Malabrigo Silkpaca in Natural, into 10 and a half tiny skeins, to acid-dye in a grape purple ombre gradation for a wedding shawl. It has beads and cables in it.
