FINISHED READING WAR AND PEACE BY LEO TOLSTOY 28 OCTOBER, 2025 Judy Cuevas super-fan 🕎 scarrstuff.com
"Political satire cannot stand up if it doesn’t have a spine."
"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
Everybody is incredible in this movie but it really is a Toni Collette Picture when it comes down to it
not only is every nsfw creator/swer you follow exhausted and feeling like they’re beating their heads against the wall, but we’re all still supporting each other, taking turns sending money back and forth to each other. we will all disappear sooner rather than later if outside support isn’t there.
A lot of Trans people like Lynch bc his films are situated in a strange liminal place of reality and an abstracted alternate reality and they phase between one another. The inbetweenness is welcoming & potentially synonymous to a quotidian low-humming dysphoria. A wrongness that many of us recognize
The league has to get rid of this Dundon guy. He bought the Blazers to hold the city of Portland hostage for arena money and now he's telling all of his underlings to shittalk the city so he can move to Kansas City or something. Cut this shit out or the league will be held hostage by similar ghouls.
if this is going to be the line then fuck these guys
Twin Peaks is many things, among them a dire warning about the perils of French Canadians
Like so many, my dear friend Tasneem in Gaza is looking for protection and a place to take refuge. Every donation, even the smallest, helps her family survive and save for the fees to flee to safety. Please give to Tasneem. And to others, if you can. 🙏 chuffed.org/project/1587...
pouring one out for Kavinsky by blasting this banger soundtrack as loud as I can
I wrote about depictions of witches and what text and subtext can reveal about the cultural anxieties behind these iconic figures. The title is Emily's atrocity, which she foisted on me like a deadly disease and for which I will never forgive her.
today on @darkertimes.bsky.social: I *love* this essay from the inimitable @scumbelievable.bsky.social on witches on film and text, subtext, power, and worldview: www.darkertimes.com/witches-worl...
Consider the subtleness of the sea; how its most dreaded creatures glide under water, unapparent for the most part
adam accidentally took one of the cats’ anti-depressants. he brought the medication upstairs to give to the cat but by the time he made it on the stairs, he forgot and took the pill thinking it was his sleep medication.
people talking about daggermouth but I keep thinking they are talking about Katharine Kerr's DAGGERSPELL which I recommend. I've only read the first in the series but I should read the other books at some point...
“Without the nuances of Morton’s performance, the Circe scene as written by Nolan is rooted in men’s questionable fear of being accused of violence against women rather than the tragedy of how women navigate that very real threat to our lives.” My latest. www.vulture.com/article/circ...
Emily Wilson is not the co-writer of Nolan's THE ODYSSEY. She didn't produce it or show up to set ready to be the high authority on all things adaptation. He read her translation, liked it, and turned to it for guidance in writing. She can say whatever she wants about the movie, calm down.
sea people this, sea people that, I see a lot of people who should log off and go run around outside
This title isn’t a compliment, it’s a challenge. We should want more for women on-screen. In my latest @vulture.com essay I analyze the Circe scene in The Odyssey to explore the failures of the adaptation including characterization, lack of sexual violence & more. www.vulture.com/article/circ...
The Odyssey’s Circe Is the Best Female Character Nolan Has Ever Written
Nolan’s never been great at writing women, but what doesn’t exist on the page Samantha Morton conjures through a tricksy, powerhouse performance.

Just a reminder that the you might be looking to read Night's Master by Tanith Lee and not even realize it.
The idea of “harmful speech” is nothing more than a pretext to government censorship. They started, of course, with pornography, then quickly moved into political dissent. Now they’re casting entire platforms and formats as dangerous — as if ideas were weapons or drugs.
NEW: We filed a brief supporting a challenge to a Colorado law that would require social media platforms to display the state’s view that speech on social media is harmful. The government cannot decide that speech is harmful and force the rest of us to play along.
I think it’s fucking immature when adults use the “ick” to describe something they don’t like or an uncomfortable feeling.
