People are still talking about what to call the permissioned data protocol. It's not the Authenticated Transfer Protocol, it's the Authorized Transfer Protocol. We could call it the AT protocol, or atproto for short!

“AT Protocol and Bluesky…Not a perfect system — just one that doesn't trap you” Sums up why I and many are here creating people-centric products & solution. It’s an experiment to regain sovereignty over mega-monopolistic corporations.

digit1024.leaflet.pub/3mpw3tn7owk27 My view on current sate of social networks and centralization of them. #bigtech #opensource #atprotocol #bluesky #facebook #blog #blogpost ( thanks @leaflet.pub for the platform - it is nice )

Eli makes an excellent point that a content's access lifecycle can and will change over time (eg. permissioned-to-public and vise-versa). A unified AT-URI that transcends changes in permission is critical to maintaining linkage and references (likes, replies, etc).

NEW BLOG! After closely following atproto permissioned data, my take: what if an "atproto repository" is the base thing and there's more than one way to sync it? Based on @ipv.sx's take and grounded in a real-world Streamplace use case: how do I make a video private, then public?

The rapid rise of tech billionaires has shown the world that our data has immense value--value that enriches them at the expense of crumbling communities around the world. We've always been the product. This is the moment of a people-powered internet--let's invest in people, not corporations.

The internet has evolved to foster a fatal expectation: that the things we depend on every day are free. They aren't, but we're allowed to pretend they are with the help of ad-driven business models. The real cost is substantial, and can be measured in time, money, relationships, health, and more.

Next meetup is Tuesday, 5/5!!! Our very own @brittanyellich.com will kick the meeting off with a preview of her CascadiaJS talk on ATProto - AND we're raffling off a free ticket! We'll also do another open breakout session, so if you've got a topic you'd like to discuss, we'd love to hear from you

Site down? Network slow? No connection? No problem. NorthStar Social lets you post when & where you want; your private feed lives on-device, where you always have access to it. Post or reply anytime, and they'll automatically send when things are back online—that's local-first! Sneak peek 👀:

Open to new opportunities! If you know of any senior eng / fullstack roles (remote or PNW based), especially in the open source / decentralized tech space, shoot me a DM! 10+ years fullstack, currently building on #atproto, check out @grain.social

Join us in the Atmosphere where it’s all about people not mega-corporations. Our contribution to the Atmosphere this spring will be E2EE private social posts, photos, and videos with family and friends alongside your public interactions. Beta waitlist now open: beta.nstar.com Sign-in sneak peek:

In the top-left corner, a button that returns the user back to the Welcome screen.

The screen continues with the NorthStar Social icon followed by the words "NorthStar Social on the ATmosphere" and the NorthStar Social moto "People. Privacy. Period." Under the moto, the heading: "Select an account" followed by button(s) for available accounts to select.

It must be Friday 😀! Lots of healthy branding discussion about this amazing decentralized ecosystem powered by the AT Protocol. My $0.02: - Be unique. - Be consistent. - Be identifiable. - Be fun. - Be memorable. 🤔 Do I say $0.00 now that US pennies are decommissioned? Or $0.05?

At the top, the NorthStar Social brand and motto "People. Privacy. Period".

In the center, @ Sign In and a text field labeled "Sign in to your Atmosphere account" with a Handle or DID.

At the bottom, an explanation of "What is an Atmosphere account?" The explanation is cutoff but reads " Your social identity for accessing your data and apps on the open social internet, such as Blacksky, Bluesky, Eurosky, Northsky, Stream.place, Smoke Signal, and many others."

The AT Protocol (aka Atmosphere), Fediverse & Local-first movements are the reaction to the hyper-consolidation of the internet by mega-corporations over 2 decades. We've given up far too much for so little in return. This our chance, tech & non-tech, to restore balance, share ideas & connect.

I wrote something about atproto from the perspective of having lived through the early days of the internet. timtrautmann.com/blog/the-ner...

Wonderful to see so much interest from the curious to those building in the PDX community! Looking forward to seeing everyone next month. Thank you @graham.systems @katexcellence.io @jason.energy for coordinating & hosting!!

Still plenty of time to answer some of these questions if you would like. Answers have gone mostly about how I thought they would go for the audience I expected Things I've learned - Needs to be crossplatform - Need more research on android backups of secure material - Interest in secure enclave

If you answered yes, do you have an iPhone or an android

Yes. i need the size to be as small as possible 1
It is not a concern 26
I would atleast like to opt into backing up locally or not 25

With your recovery key, would you feel comfortable if it were password protected and stored on PDS MOOver servers?

I would prefer if you did not 8

Hey y'all! One of the things I took from #AtmosphereConf was that there's still a hole to fill to make it easier for users to back up their identities and that something like a mobile app may do that. So if you're interested, please take a bit of time to answer the questions to help shape that app.

My takeaway from Atmosphere: it needs to be WAY easier for builders to get paid So I built at.fund at.fund detects the tools you use, and tells you how to fund the builders who make those tools. And if you're a builder, it takes seconds to add records to that tell your users how to fund you 👍

at.fund@at.fund · 4mo ago

The alpha version of at.fund is live! at.fund is an lexicon+appView for funding signal across the Atmosphere so you can: - if you're a user, fund the builders that make your stuff - if you're a community, highlight who keeps you running - if you're a builder, tell people how they can fund you

The community didn't hear "we're building this, and here's how we're working with affected projects." -Trezy This is the problem w/ BigTech & AI in general. Tech can be for the enrichment of common good OR to extract wealth for the entitled few. It cannot be both. Actions speak louder than words.

Finally done. I was able to talk with @pfrazee.com, as well as a handful of other folks with insight on the situation. #atmosphereconf trezy.com/blog/the-mar...
