Higher ed comms and advancement. Misplaced Southerner surviving the Midwest. It's sunny and 75, it feels so good to be alive. Thoughts my own.
Author and environmental activist Wendell Berry passed away yesterday. We'd like to honor his work by remembering the poem "The Peace of Wild Things"

NC State solving the male loneliness crisis by bringing grown men together to share the agony of opening weekend
That did not look good at all.
If this were happening somewhere else, we would call them what they are: Internally Displaced People.
Its been compared to the great migration.
"the program only costs $2.60 a month per kid, and has put nearly 25 million books in the hands of children in North Carolina since 2017." When we eventually strip SpaceX for parts and sell off the assets, we should use the money to fund the Imagination Library forever.
There seemed to be some confusion after Dolly Parton‘s Imagination Library hit a funding snag in North Carolina last year. Here’s what’s going on, and what’s happening now. www.ncrabbithole.com/p/kids-acros...
Almond scones, warm and fresh from the ovens, spread with honeycream and washed down with damson wine.
We have a four bedroom house and somehow four humans and the fuckin cat all gotta be in a 6x6 corner of our kitchen when I'm trying to chop onions
"We have tiptoed around Trump, and antivaxers, and various other false prophets, for fear of offending the sensibilities of their followers. And in all that time, their malign influence on society has only deepened." www.offmessage.net/p/hard-truth...
The Case For Hard Truths Told Well
The Democratic establishment wants to avoid conflict with the people it’s trying to persuade; the insurgent left wants to beat them over the head with hard truths. We need a path between.

These people are incredibly stupid, and the ones who aren't are just profiting off the ones who are
Just saw Facebook antivaxxers speculating that 80-year-old Dolly Parton’s death was hastened by the COVID vaccine she helped fund the development of and received—half a decade ago—and am thinking about how the past decade spent catering to these people has been nothing but a waste of time.
When the profession is in dire straits, when there's no research funding, when there are no jobs, when the academic freedom of historians is under attack, it's hard to stomach the fact that the AHA invested in paying lobbyists to thwart democracy within the organization. THIS is your priority?! 🗃️
Things you could do this week to honor the impact Dolly has had: *Donate to the Imagination Library or a local kids reading initiative *Read with a kid you care about *Support and protect LGBTQIA kids *Support a Black owned business *Schedule your vaccine appointments *Show up authentically as you
Toad went to Frog’s house. He found a note on the door. The note said, “Dear Toad, I am not at home. I went out. I want to be alone.”
Imagine going through life without a shred of dignity
She came up about 3,500 votes short, but Francesca Hong is a legend. What an incredible campaign. Nobody thought an unabashed democratic socialist would get more than 311,000 votes in this primary. www.therecombobulationarea.com/p/12-takeawa...
This is an absolute travesty. Northwestern has, probably, the 2nd best library collection for African History/Studies in the USA (behind Yale and ahead of MSU, UCLA, etc). A self-inflicted wound that is absolutely, 100% unnecessary given the massive wealth of Northwestern--north of $15 billion.

There is just no saving the NYT, sorry. I don’t care which one of your friends or colleagues writes for them, the total dissolution of that rag would be a net positive to the world.
Absolutely vile framing from the @nytimes.com. Why doesn’t this leave behind hard questions for the media that hounded him? Or the global right-wing that gleefully turned a local matter into an international incident?
welcome to the field of dreams, an homage to a movie revolving around men banned for life from baseball for gambling. brought to you by fanduel
only now realizing the field of dreams game happened and this is all so unbelievably stupid
Had a family friend who back in the 80s jumped off a carrier in order to get out of his deployment. Would highly recommend not doing this.
i've been covering national security for decades, on and off. i've never heard of anything like this. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
I don't care if this thing ends up costing eleventy trillion dollars, we have to tear it down when Dems regain power.
BREAKING: A new report reveals that the Trump admin could spend nearly $1 BILLION in taxpayer money on White House construction. Oversight Democrats will hold them accountable for these wasteful vanity projects.
Managed to find the dumbest election take, and before 7am at that!
Every six months a writer goes on parental leave, is driven insane by watching 10,000 hours of Paw Patrol, and writes another one of these articles, and they're always great.
