You know this is my third or fourth go around with this kind of technological innovation for consumers and citizens. And a lot of it is the same. Same pattern of exaggerated benefits, underestimated challenges. What’s new this time is the sector isn’t even pretending to care about the consumer.
you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor
Us after we build too many data centers
We used to microwave, now we just eat nuts and berries
I think what's driving the poor AI marketing is two fold both caused by the culture that has developed in SV 1. The tech industry is dry on hyper growth idea after years of building investor expectations of hyper growth. So they are desperate. 2. Tech investors and leaders are weird af.
In defence of the AI CEOs, I too like to describe things I’m not interested in doing as impossible
If you have more empathy for the box of blinky lights than you do for, say, trans people or refugees, you are frankly a bad person
In my mind, I am imagining a particular shade, a certain specific color, an ineffable hue. If, by chance, you come to me draped in a robe, your garment dyed with a pigment that matches _precisely_ the tint I have imagined, then —only then!— will you be hired. I pray fortune finds you worthy.
you shouldn't take an iced coffee to a job interview because you shouldn't be trying to get a job. you should be digging an enormous pit or a complex system of tunnels
It’s all just so…embarrassing. It’s as if they’re determined to find out just how cringe the government of a global superpower can be. #StupidestTimeline

every day it seems a brand new sentence is written to describe the state of the world

Inclusive design teaches us about alternate input modalities, and loves to use "holding a newborn with one hand" as an example, but I think there is also room for "your needy dog thinks using the trackpad is petting the laptop and gets jealous."
A memory from the past but still applicable: "It helps if you imagine auto correct as a tiny little elf in your phone who's trying so hard to be helpful, but is in fact quite drunk."

Do screen readers actually read the screen?
Most screen readers never look at the rendered screen. Instead, they get information from the browser in two ways.

“OpenAI said today that it is integrating ChatGPT Health with Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) system, which holds data for over 325 million patients, to let clinicians import patient data and use AI to ask questions.”

I didn't think the USA could fall any lower, but how the hell do you manage to make bacteria-infected SOAP? That's literally soap's ONE JOB. https://www.health.com/hand-soap-recall-september-2026-12123997 #shitpost #contamination #soap

Rough week to tell people that your application to join the FBI finally went through.
See, here's a problem with Tina's social media: this wordy, but informative post should have been the *second* post. First post should have been: "No new data centers! Call your reps!"
Data centers are asking Oregon communities to absorb enormous demands on our water, energy, and infrastructure – and I’m not going to let that happen. I’ve already stopped state agencies from handling requests to allow use of state public land for new data center projects.
clearly I-5 should be 80% depaved with remainder used as a micromobility arterial
Yet again, traffic engineers are gobsmacked that a road closure didn't create crippling gridlock: "You’d never know that a massive highway project, ominously dubbed 'carmageddon,' was underway seven miles away...cars [were] speeding across the Interstate Bridge at their usual clip."
