Six days after ICE shot him in the Bronx, Oscar Belgal remains in MDC Brooklyn, and still hasn’t gotten surgery to remove the bullet in his neck. “He has experienced a loss of sensation in half of his face, as well as hearing loss in his left ear.” Gift link: www.nydailynews.com/2026/10/14/l...

ICE never identified themselves during NYC shooting of Oscar Belgal, who still has bullet in neck: lawyers

The Legal Aid Society, which now represents the 28-year-old father, filed a habeas corpus petition in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday, seeking his “immediate release on reasonable conditions.”

Ex-boss filed a $12 theft charge against an ex-employee because she got a restraining order in response to his creepy behavior. Charge was never prosecuted, but it gave ICE an excuse to arrest and detain her. Congratulations to the 58 Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act. You own this.

A disgruntled boss filed theft charges against her. When she went to court, ICE arrested her. | Baltimore Brew

BREW EXCLUSIVE: A $12.08 dispute over a McDonald’s meal leads to the arrest of a 25-year-old by ICE agents in the Carroll County District courthouse.

It is odd to see how many people are realizing they are neurodivergent at the same time there is an explosion in digital processes which drain executive function: Slack messages; 2FA requests; marketing, promotion, and AI-written emails; as well as online forms for medical care and job applications.

🧵🧵🧵 The NY Times posted a 15-minute video today in which I got to tell NYT what’s wrong with its coverage. They said they saw my critical posts on Bluesky and invited me to do a video with them to air my grievances. Weird, right? I didn’t hold back. I blasted their sanewashing of MAGA extremism.

Elon Musk is now officially the biggest-ever disclosed midterm donor. Here's where the $$ went: Before tonight - $91 million to back Republicans. Tonight's filings - $158 million to SLF PAC to back Ken Paxton, plus $88 million to his America PAC TOTAL SO FAR: $337 million. & more coming tonight.

we just love our troops don't we folks? support the troops. stand up for the troops. respect their sacrifice. the troops. gotta respect 'em. it was bullshit the whole time, the same people who spent 25 years saying this cheerlead trump now as he does shit like this. here since she was 6!

NEW: ICE is trying to deport a mother of 4 while her husband is at Fort Benning in Army basic training. When she went to pick up the family's military IDs, Navy personnel turned her over to ICE. She's been in the US since age six. With @nancyayoussef.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

Interesting but sane-washed piece on Marc Andreessen. You can't leave out his friendship with Yarvin and the fact that his manifesto cited fascists as saints. The Andreessen story is about radicalization, not deregulation. gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

Why Is Tech Billionaire Marc Andreessen So Mad?

The prominent investor has said the Biden administration pushed him to the political right, but sources say his grievances don’t always match reality.

Based on their public comments, NYT leaders view the kind of insider details discovered by Haberman and others as essential to understanding Trump. I don't think that's correct. Public documents (Project 2025) and events (Jan 6, DOGE) to me describe this presidency better than insider accounts.

"Democracy dies unless Maggie Haberman has access to senior Trump aides and McConnell/Romney Republicans respect us" is essentially the argument Times editors have been making since 2018. I can't tell if they actually believe that or it's a pretext for their decision not to change their approach.

This 2022 piece by Jeremy Peters In the New York Times was hilarious bullshit when it was published but now that Musk is literally bankrolling the entire Republican Party it’s a fucking laugh riot.

Critics Say Musk Has Revealed Himself as a Conservative. It’s Not So Simple.

For my entire life I wondered how virulent racist and antisemite Henry Ford would have been talked about at the time and now I get to watch the press cover sig-heiling white supremacist Elon Musk without even mentioning that he's a nazi.

observation: gigantic illegal medical bills are not generally paperwork errors, they are part of the quasi-criminal extortion process by which every part of the healthcare system operates. they take people for what they think they can get

I don't find that video of those young Black people walking back to their campus uplifting or inspiring in the least. It should enrage every person and all of us of a certain age should be embarrassed that they have to do this in 2026.

Nobody has less institutional self-respect than the American journalism industry. Hundreds of journalists killed in Gaza, dozens of US and European journalists beaten and assaulted and detained and deported by Israel in the West Bank, and nothing really in the way of a response. Pathetic.

Impunity provided by all parties across the West, by the way. Never forget that Shireen Abu Akleh was assassinated by an Israeli soldier and the USG, under the Biden administration, buried the report which concluded that it was purposeful and deferred to Israel when it exonerated itself.

The Palestinians routinely victimized by settlers should be no less important but it’s hard to miss here that the photojournalist a bunch of them savagely beat is named Heidi Levine — almost certainly an American Jew. The story says she’s a 64 years old woman Staggering levels of impunity
