Me (stepping out of a time machine in 1982 Vancouver): Excuse me, sir, Mr. Gibson? Can I call you Bill? Listen, I need you to be much less morally ambiguous. In your fiction sir. Every third sentence be like "AND THAT WAS BAD!" It's important. For the future.

The Trump administration is looking into the controversial idea of empowering private companies to "hack back" at adversaries, a top DHS official said at Black Hat today.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

okay I have now seen Christopher Nolan Presents Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey: A Matt Damon Adventure. and my review is, I can't believe anyone got mad at Emily Wilson's review on behalf of this genuinely quite bad film

On the one hand, there's something beautiful about this, because it means I have an identity and a life beyond my time in academia On the other hand there's profound grief at the loss of a life that was so central to me for so long

Immigration court volunteering is such a weird/special social scene, because I'm deeply bonded to my fellow volunters and also we know so little about each other. Someone I've volunteered with *every week* for the last six months just found out I have a PhD.

TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.

Hello everyone! Many of you likely saw this image recently with the Apple TV+ 'Neuromancer' promotion. Some know, others don't, but this artwork is mine, created alongside actor & post-production artist Milton Menezes, as a personal project and a homage to the original Neuromancer romance

LinkedIn posts about The Odyssey highlight a kind of business mentality where art cannot be enjoyed for art's sake or even provoke introspection, it has to be turned into some sort of inspiration content for how to be more productive, entrepreneurial, or a better leader.

Okay, wading into the discourse, but some of these critiques of Emily Wilson are smacking a LITTLE BIT of misogyny We've got the classic "how dare this woman critique this genius man" thing, and also a lot of "LADY intellectuals don't understand MALE mass culture" vibes

I think it's absolutely good & fine for people to disagree with the essay's points but it is baffling to see complaints like "Wilson doesn't get that an adaptation makes changes" or "Wilson doesn't get cinema" or "Wilson should be more polite & gracious," like come on friends what are we doing here!

You can't lure me into the Odyssey discourse. I'm stuffing my ears with wax! I'm tying myself to my mast! I'm distracting myself with the only greek mythology adaptation that really matters (Hadestown!)
