El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"

its very telling that the mainstream media narrative is that dsa has wacky and unreasonable positions when the republican party position is that abortion should be banned, latino families should be put in concentration camps, black people should be shot by cops and transgender people shouldnt exist

This is bullshit. I haven't had a drink in over 12 years and I still go out, even to bars. Alcohol is not healthy to consume and, while I'd never stop anyone else from a tipple, less drinking overall is better for us as a society. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/s...

What Else Do We Lose When People Give Up Booze?

Polling results showing Greg Abbott leading Gina Hinojosa by only 50-49 percent.

the only thing to be said about covid lockdowns is that it revealed the startling number of people who feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract that they also do not feel bound by

Walked to the local park yesterday. On the way there, I was hit by a delivery cyclist driving the wrong way in a one-way bike lane. At the waterfront park, I was sprayed with East River water deliberately by jet-skiers. I'm staying inside for the rest of the summer.

Observed annually on the fourth Saturday of July, International Cowboy Day celebrates the history, culture and enduring legacy of cowboys and cowgirls around the world. While rooted in the traditions of North America, cowboy culture and country music have gained a growing following across parts of Africa in recent years, particularly in Kenya, where Western-style fashion, line dancing, horseback riding and country music events have attracted an expanding community of enthusiasts. You could get mad about dead senator discourse *or* you could enjoy this video of sea lions who have retaken an island with a decommissioned lighthouse off the coast of Oregon and now use the staircase as a giant slide.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 07: People look up at the former Pfizer headquarters building on July 07, 2026, in New York City. Construction workers working on the former pharmaceutical company building, a high-profile housing project, were evacuated after it was determined that it was at risk of collapse. According to Buildings Department records a safety manager reported that a steel beam was compromised on the 21st floor and the Fire Department said that two support columns inside the building were buckling, and several upper floors were sagging. The project, which architects said would be the largest of its kind in New York City history, was scheduled to be completed in 2027. Numerous streets were closed to both cars and pedestrians as officials continued to examine the building. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
