More cops have been arrested for using flock cameras to stalk women than there are transgender athletes in youth sports.

From a Fox Poll out 7/31: Talarico-Paxton is the marquee race down here but check out the dead heat btw Abbott and Hinojosa for governor. This contest isn't even on the radar for the national Dems, AFAIK. She's has $3m cash on hand--Abbott has *$67m*. Some more highlights from the poll... /1
You're laughing but remember when the communists ate the DSA in Russia and then the Muslims ate the communists and now Russia is Muslim? Not so funny now, is it?
I’ve shared this before, but since people feel the need to downplay covid in schools, I’m going to share it again. I had a student named Kimberely in my English 1 class the year covid hit. Kimberely was sweet but very shy. When everything locked down, she was terrified. 1/?
The Senate is important, but state legislatures are just as big and, as the post notes, these races are a lot more effective use of your dollar.
I love Talarico and hope he wins. But he’s already raised $70M On the flipside, control of critical state legislatures will come down to seats where candidates raise 0.1% of that. I’ve researched the highest leverage swing district candidates you should donate to secure.actblue.com/donate/donat...
We spent early July watching Graham Platner's campaign implode because of abuse; now it's a Republican's turn. Let all this be a reminder of how pervasive violence against women and children is across the political spectrum.
After Max Miller’s statement, Bernie Moreno finally issues a statement denouncing Miller, saying he needs psychological help and should not be in Congress.
The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.
Seeing a number of top regime staff tried and imprisoned* for waging a war of aggression would go a long way towards restoring faith in the rule of law.

This @patrickwyman.bsky.social essay is not explicitly about car dealerships but it includes them and their politics. It has lived in my head since 2021 as one of the better essays explaining how we got here www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
American Gentry
The jet-setting cosmopolitans of popular imagination exist, but they are far outnumbered by a less exalted and less discussed elite group, one that sits at the pinnacle of America’s local hierarchies.

This grotesque headline is from the Telegraph. 3,000 people in Britain have been killed in heatwaves this year so far. 20,000 in Europe. Even if Britain did get to “embrace Mediterranean life”, what about the actual Mediterranean, what do they get to embrace? What about India?
"Is this process annoying? Maybe. But if asking the owner of a $5 million property to submit some forms over the internet is 'harassment,' how should we describe the process of obtaining SNAP benefits, or unemployment checks, or health insurance on the exchange?" hellgatenyc.com/second-home-...
A very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.
There would be more pushback if folks left of center were more serious about outreach. But folks aren't despite the fact that our system does give disproportionate power to rural areas. But instead of taking that as the rules of the game as it exists, and actually organizing, we complain about it.
Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!
Trump insulting blue cities, states, refusing to give aid to those states who haven't voted for him, while collecting bribes, shaking down companies for stakes in their companies, insider trading, selling pardons is all well documented. It's just not acknowledged in day to day coverage of him.
Q: Can you rule out that Iran is behind the water attacks? TRUMP: I don't think so. I think that Minnesota is behind it. You know who is behind it? Minnesota. Because they're grossly incompetent. I don't think there was an Iranian cyberattack. I think Minnesota ought to get its act together.
Never met a pol who was weak on trans rights but solid on everything else. If they're willing to sacrifice trans folk, they're willing to sacrifice the rest of us.
Squishiness on trans rights is a dealbreaker for me because (a) it’s a straightforward issue of personal freedom and bodily autonomy much like abortion, and (b) the right is obviously coming after us cis gays next.
'Random sidewalk meat' sounds like a Frank Miller line
I love the people who are like "there's gonna be a robust, seedy black market for meat purchased from Zohran's Communist grocery stores." These people have never been aggressively pitched stolen steak out of the back of a Honda Civic before? Non-desperate people don't buy random sidewalk meat.

Worth remembering that Talarico raised so much money he just gave some away to other Texas candidates and Mamdani raised so much money during the primary that he told people to donate to Adrienne Adams. People aren't giving up on Ds. They just don't like the DNC. The DNC should think about that!
can my comparative politics folks come up with any other example of the opposition party being $2m in debt when the incumbent government is ~20 points underwater on approval?

right, this isn't "well you're spending money on a shitty megacorp" basically every dollar she gets these days goes directly to funding this stuff it's hard to get people to connect "buying a toy wand from the kid wizard book" with trans genocide but that doesn't make it less true
Yeah, I've been trying to get through to a lot of people about that, I'm not "cancelling someone because I disagree with her opinions," I'm explaining that every time you go see the Harry Potter play or buy a pair of Hufflepuff socks, you are personally directly funding a hate campaign
