Petting cats, reading books, listening to filk music.

Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”

Washington state folks: Tues Aug 4 is the primary election. If you are a US citizen living in Washington, you can vote. Every county has at least one voting center where you can register and vote tomorrow.

Yo Seattle SMOKE INCOMING. Worst likely Wed-Thu. Exposure to wildfire smoke harms your health—don't tough it out. Air purifiers are your friend. Many free apps show you local air quality (AQI). Exerting yourself outdoors when it's high is a bad call. Be safe! emeraldcityweather.com/heat-wildfir...

Heat and wildfire smoke set to return to Seattle and Western Washington this week - Emerald City Weather Blog

Which filament for the celestial kitties? The one on the left is a dark navy with sapphire blue glitter. The one on the right is a purpleish-black with sapphire and gold glitter. They’re both very similar to blue goldstone and just as difficult to photograph. 😑

All of this, for all of WA/OR/ID. You absolutely need to protect your lungs and breathing under these conditions. And figure out your options for keeping your indoor spaces cool when it's this hot and you can't open the windows (remember, the smoke won't go away at night even if the heat does).

Seattle friends - reminder for self-care, whatever that looks like for you in smoky times. If you're not sure what smoke season self-care looks like, consider: close windows, air purifier in your bedroom, kn95 when outside, shower and/or saline sinus rinse before bedtime. I know it's hot. It sucks.

As we enter the last week of Hugo voting, a reminder that October Daye is up for Best Series, and winning would be made SO MUCH SWEETER by the fact that I could take my trophy and inform the room "I'm going to Disneyland," then ACTUALLY DO IT, since Disneyland will be less than a mile away. WOW!

ME: I can’t find a single decent metal cover of Total Eclipse of the Heart. KEVIN: Yeah, they all go power ballad. ME: I’m not asking for a Cookie Monster growl on “turn around, bright eyes” but… ME: No, wait, that’s EXACTLY what I want. That would be awesome.

If you're voting for the Hugos this weekend, please consider A GIRL AND HER FED for "Best Graphic Story or Comic." We're eligible as we wrapped the most recent act in 2025, a 20-year project about the illusions of freedom we somehow managed to land. #Hugos #WorldCon #GraphicArt #GraphicStory #Comic

all of these companies were obscenely profitable and, frankly, more functional before AI. so what else could have been done with this money had they invested in to some other purpose, like decarbonizing infrastructure they use? or a moonshot to end homelessness in the nations where they operate?
