it was a test for establishment Democrats - and one they've passed, which is great. It wasn't long ago that many establishment Dems (Hochul, Gillibrand, Jeffries, and Schumer, for example) took months to endorse Mamdani after he won his primary - or never endorsed at all.
"Disenchanted single issue voters voting for Jill Stein put Trump in!" If every Jill Stein voter in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania had voted for Harris, Trump still would have won. (And - it should be needless to say - not all Stein voters were "disenchanted single issue voters").
Just Genocide?Genocide has been going in the Middle East for generations. Again, letting a single issue determine whether you vote or not, or whether you support a 3rd party candidate is what put Trump in the WH!! Disenchanted single issue voters gave away enough votes to Jill Stein to put Trump in!
Community partners are eager to begin construction on our plans to improve transit and safety on 82nd Avenue. Unfortunately the Trump Administration is currently stalling on advancing multiple transit projects across the country. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/27/upshot/transit-projects-trump.html
If (when) AI collapses, private credit companies will get bailed out by taxpayers - via their ownership of insurance companies. prospect.org/2026/08/03/a...
Private credit companies are key owners of AI-related assets. Many of their parent private equity firms own life insurers that are dumping grounds for bad loans—and subject to state bailouts.
Instead of passing through bankruptcy, insolvent life insurers have all their liabilities—in particular the policyholder claims—paid for by state guaranty funds.

The cameras really shouldn't have been out that time of night. What were they wearing? 💀
Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!🥳
This is way higher than the dollar-a-barrel Iran was demanding in May, after the war. 5-7% is 4-5 bucks a barrel at current prices.
Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."
as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

I co-sign this great summary from @dereklowe.bsky.social . The goal is to destroy academic science, and these are the reasons. And all the “gold standard” and “needs reform” and “not high risk” stuff is transparent bullshit to hide the ball on what they are doing.
Thoughts on the various Trump administration proposals to revamp US science funding - and what they all have in common:
To snidely relitigate this, Moss won. This garbage doesn't work, stop trying it, you're going to reverse polarize people against you
When it comes to Israel/Palestine policy, I'm much more in alignment with Aisha Farooqi's policies than Jeremy Moss. But "Aisha Farooqi is Michigan first/Jeremy Moss is Israel first" is a despicable antisemitic duel-loyalty trope, and Farooqi should apologize for having used it.
Miller is a piece of shit. But be cautious about calling family photos of nude toddlers "CSAM." I've written about lives ruined over allegations that turned out to be harmless photos of kids taking a bath or running naked through the house. Moreno is already calling for prosecutions, here.

Lawyers for ex-wife Emily Moreno said possible “Child Sexual Abuse Material” was included in a trove of documents the Ohio lawmaker publicly posted.

The Justice Department is using federal conspiracy charges to sweep up ICE protesters. Some legal experts worry the agency is casting too wide a net to prosecute political activists.

If the vote counts were reversed, they'd be saying this was the forever end of socialism in the United States. But the left won, so it's actually a loss. Somehow.
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
They could always sign up to give comment at a public meeting.
New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Regardless of the politics of an individual race, I always find it heartening when the candidate with a lopsided money advantage doesn't win.
Unfathomable

Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.
The World Crossed a Major Solar Milestone. No One Noticed
The next phase of the boom may reveal a shift in who is gaining access to the technology.

new from @tusk81.bsky.social: Imagine forcing a child who fled violence, trafficking, or abuse to stand alone in immigration court against trained government attorneys. That's exactly what the Trump administration is doing by ending legal funding for nearly 20,000 immigrant children.

Children “who have fled violence, trafficking, and abuse” woke up Saturday without the legal support they were promised, said one legal service provider.

(The actual accusation that is supported by the article is that Talarico may have been slow updating his voter registration after moving out of his parents' house)
NEW: After James Talarico accused Ken Paxton of committing voter fraud, ProPublica and @texastribune.org found that the Democratic Senate candidate may have voted in up to five elections using an address where he no longer lived.
