Another disappointing reduction in bus services in Cambridgeshire, from 1st of January 2027 (@cbgbususers.bsky.social @cambstravelall.bsky.social) #Cambridgeshire #Busway #Buses
The Stagecoach Statement
Stagecoach has seen passenger numbers drop by around 25% on the Cambridge Busway since reduced speed limits were imposed during fencing works. Now it plans to cut the frequencies (from every 10 to 15 mins peak and from 20 to 30 mins off peak) on its Busway routes from January 1 2027
“Breathing room” on no VAT on electricity for a while and lower bus fares, but Ofgem likely to raise the ”price cap” on energy anyway, and now water to go up in price even more… (don’t they make profit??) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Water bills set to rise for many after firms permitted extra funding
Ofwat has given provisional approval for 13 water companies to charge customers more to pay for investments.

A major strategic weakness in the draft Local Plan is that it doesn’t recognise that mass transit is needed to support the economy and the development plans. The Local Plan should set out a vision for a transport network fit for purpose. Pretending buses are enough doesn’t come close to adequate.
NEW BLOGPOST: "Re @cambridgebiocampus.bsky.social - the Transport challenges are significant" cambridgetownowl.com/2026/08/06/d... There are 18 of them listed in the consultants' report for the draft local plan. Are buses and busways enough? (Light rail isn't mentioned 🥶)
'' A council in Derbyshire has said it is "begging" drivers using its car parks not to pay at weekends, when there is no charge '' Wonder how many people are (or will) paying for the 'free' parking being introduced by CPCA Mayor Bristow in Peterborough and Huntingdonshire carparks?

Erewash Borough Council says about a quarter of drivers continue to pay for parking on weekends.

I know it's really picky, and probably doesn't really matter (and all that), but BBC has used two images today for their "bus fare cap" coverage, which aren't even UK buses, as both have doors on the wrong side. Shouldn't BBC have UK photos for UK stories on their UK site. Not generic stock photos?

Cheaper travel for millions with a third off fares
Millions of people will save a third on bus travel as Prime Minister Andy Burnham announces a cap on single bus tickets at £2 during his first week in office.

Spent some time going through all the councils including metropolitan boroughs to see where population of councils sat. New unitaries are clearly bigger but many sat around 300 to 400k. Certain regions had 500k+ but purely based on geography, but where it's more polycentric, gov picked more councils

See the region's mayor claims to have been "selling" our region. We're all going to get a cut from that "sale" right, as stakeholders? When the developers come in and spend millions/billions, building on the land in our region, we'll all get some £ in return, because it's been "sold"?
#Cambridgeshire and #Peterborough Combined Authority proudly announcing there have been 50,000 journeys on the Tiger on Demand services now. But, let's not forget... one single zone (Fenland) had a "trip generation" of 1,039,527 *PER YEAR* when proposed... #duffdata for bus network proposals?

Mayor and Combined Authority Board must act now to save our buses
A post jointly authored with Cambridgeshire Sustainable Travel Alliance Bus services across our region could be cut by 38% by 2035, due to rising costs and insufficient public funding. A key reason for the shortfall is Mayor Paul Bristow’s pledge to freeze the Mayoral Council Tax Precept which supports buses. Mayor Paul Bristow and the Combined Authority’s Board can turn this situation around.

This is the kind of thing that is so frustrating - an ongoing consultation on changes to bus routes around Cambridge - including some that go right past the newly opened Cambridge South. But no joined up plan for how these routes serve the new station (let alone any other routes like the 7).
There is currently a Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority consultation on the bus network, which proposes a whole raft of changes in and around Cambridge (see PDF: cpca-yourvoice.co.uk/wp-content/u...) Cambridge South station doesn't even feature! cpca-yourvoice.co.uk/bus-network-...

On bus integration: Cambridge South station itself is right next to the Guided Busway bridge over the railway (red arrow). But the nearest stops for the Busway A service are outside Royal Papworth hospital/AstraZenica - approx 200m away from the station. And that only goes to Trumpington P&R!
