Sisyphus with a Hat

I survived a lot of things, so I like to talk about what brings me peace and joy - gardening, birds, insects, houseplants, nature, cooking. Sagan Pagan, OBOD. ND. (He/him) Geologist by trade. Born at CO2 329.58 ppm Saskatoon, SK, Treaty 6 Territory

A debate is raging here as to whether humans are 1. An "invasive species" (presumably outside Africa) 2. "Part of nature" My take? We are neither of the above, nor separate from nature. Our relationship with the natural world is far more complicated, and defies such simplistic definitions.

In the wild places, man is an unwelcome guest. Look at all the garbage orbiting the Earth. Who do you think put it there? It wasn't aliens. Have you seen Mt. Everest lately? Dead bodies and oxygen tanks and tents litter the mountain side.

When we play the MCC from 14-16 August, the matches will be played at Tungubakkavöllur, Mosfellsbær. If the MCC beat us, we will ask their squad to pronounce the venue, and if they do not do a satisfactory job, we will declare 'a moral victory'. We will judge them fairly.

If you’ve got land that could be Loggerhead Shrike habitat, please consider planting/saving shrubs for shrikes. If you'd like to support habitat preservation, consider supporting Nature Saskatchewan, Birds Canada, or other organizations working toward preservation of grasslands biodiversity #birds

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

Just learned Amazon Prime in the UK is now showing the 'Pendragon Cycle' fantasy series, so in case anyone stumbles into watching it by mistake, know that it was made by far-right Trumpists at the Daily Wire, explicitly as violent right-wing Christian propaganda (this is a tweet by its creator)

Tweet from Jeremy Boering, creator of The Pendragon Cycle TV show: "As a teenager,@StephenLawhead's The Pendragon Cycle reshaped my understanding of faith, courage, and purpose. It rejected the shallow, “nice” Christianity of my youth and revealed a kind of Christian whose faith was forged in blood and sacrifice -- a world where the battle for king and country was inseparable from the battle for Christ and His Kingdom.

That story changed me, and I’ve spent years bringing it to life for the screen."

When people die and the media says they had “pre-existing conditions”… they’re pacifying the public. Anyone could die from Cyclosporiasis, but they want you to believe it can’t happen to you. It can only happen to the weak, the disabled, the elderly. The expendable people. Eugenics.

Two Deaths Linked to Cyclospora Outbreak in Michigan

The patients had “significant underlying health conditions” that may have contributed to their deaths, health officials said.

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

Abusive men often charm women outwith their immediate relationships: it guarantees reputation laundering and future supply. The vested interest of the abuser lies in charming people in order to make any report of abuse seem unlikely, and to minimise the reporting power of the victim.
