IMO the main problem of bluesky's composition isn't the political orientation of its users so much as its users are primarily interested in talking about politics, leading to only one type of conversation dominating. we need more film/music/sports fans, etc. weird he doesn't say that instead.

hi, social scientist here. assigning a label of "ADHD" to a pattern of genetic markers, behavior, and response to medication is a process of social construction. the switch from calling it ADD to ADHD? redefining the criteria to catch it more in girls? both products of social (re)construction.

I know this post is poking fun at it but a lot of people seem to really feel like this and I don't understand why

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

Every one of these debates is the exact same thing: "Can you theoretically imagine someone abusing this for nefarious goals?" "Yes." "Is it happening?" "No or negligibly." "Are there safeguards in place?" "Yes." "Should we very cruelly over-react in ways that hurt people anyway?" "Yes!"

Probably the biggest one for me, which I think I partially believed but believed more after having the actual kids is that the main thing parents do is provide food, stability, and love. The rest is up to genes and chance. You don't build kids, you meet them.
