Beginning to feel like I need to budget a week on the blog for a military primer on 'how the US Navy is the load-bearing pillar of your ability to eat bananas and of folks in developing countries to eat at all.' Not saying that is an optimal situation, merely that it is the situation.
LRP: gatekeeping is actually necessary, sometimes. No Nazis anywhere, for one thing. If there in a space, drive them out. Renfaire can do without the people who show up trying to be the main character, like the guy dressed as Pennywise trying to terrify children at MD a few years ago
Also my hot take is that gatekeeping is not a uniformly negative thing and is in many cases actually necessary to maintain the health of a cultural ecosystem
I'm gonna be SUPER annoying about this for the next week and beyond. These books started coming out a decade ago, and there's things I wouldn't do again, but I'm still really proud of them.
Just a reminder that my first fantasy trilogy relaunches on August 11th in the eBook format of your choice! A strong week of preorders would be fantastic. #fantasy #paladin #ebook openroadmedia.com/ebook/ordina...
Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.
If you're in your 30s and still posting Harry Potter shit that is incredibly embarrassing for you AND I assume you aren't safe for people to be around.
I am afraid I cannot play the 1 like 1 mundane fact game because THERE ARE NO MUNDANE FACTS ABOUT ME
NEW: Meta reviewed, approved, and ran more than 50 ads containing AI-generated child sexual abuse material across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads. They ran for nine months. Some were live this week. After WIRED asked about them, researchers found ~30 more

I blogged! On GenAI and full-fat plagiarism, and some striking similarities between the two.
The Plagiarism Machine — KJ Charles
Back in the day, as an editor, I was witness in varying degrees to various plagiarism cases. The thing about plagiarism accusations (real ones, not nonsense vexatious lawsuit ones) is, every damn time...

Had a lot of fun recording this podcast with @podcast.athrabeth.com & talking about one of my favorite topics of secondary world source criticism regarding the Dwarves! Baruk Khazad!
Join us this episode with David the Ñoldo to discuss Tolkien's dwarves! Through a lens of source criticism of secondary world authorship, David explores who is writing about the dwarves, their sources, and their biases. Thanks, @davidthengoldo.bsky.social! athrabeth.simplecast.com/episodes/epi...
Things I don't miss as a teacher the students who would attempt to do absolutely nothing and then whine that it's too hard parents who lie to cover their student's cheating or plagiarism parents in general a parking lot full of Qanon and 3%er stickers
I wonder if Arraez is setting himself up for a nice FA or is every spreadsheet clutching coward just going to say "bbbbbbut he doesn't hit the ball in the air!" and collapse on to their fainting couches
Call me Dostoevsky, because this breakfast casserole from an unmarked aluminum pan at work is making me The fucking Gambler.
I didn’t even know there was a book 2, much less a book 3! Thank goodness for the public library! I will review/skim “The Warden” and read the 2 new (to me) installments! #TheWarden #Necrobane #Advocatei
I sure did! Thanks for reading
Woo! This’ll be grand, I’m really excited! If you come, there will even be a chance to sneak a few early chapters of Fortune’s Wake… 😏
Shortish notice on this but M will be making a flying visit to MCM Birmingham! 0.5 x MK Hardy will be on the Writers Block stage at 1pm with @ianthegreen.bsky.social & @clclarkwrites.com (others tbc) to talk about diverse worldbuilding, then signing books - who'll be around?
lol yes of course, since I don't use the brain destroying plagiarism engine in the first place
I have one answer.
I don’t think most people realize how much they reveal about themselves when they pose what appears to them must be a question with only one answer
I have one answer.
Oh my god Rex Morgan MD is about to launch into some INCREDIBLE nonsense, and I am here for it
Please please please please please please please please please do not add MZB to your fantasy rec lists. Do you want me to scrub my eyes out? Ew. Ugh. brb brain bleach needed. I am BEGGING you guys to read ANY article or review. It takes five seconds not to inflict her on us.
Can’t wait till February when we’re sold that Cade Povich can replace Trevor Rogers, that CES/Mayo are fine at third, and that they’re expecting big things from Tyler O’Neill
Someone once told me that it's "classist" to advocate for people to have indoor cats because you need to buy them lots of expensive toys. Marcel has been playing with the discarded stem of a fresh green bean for 20 minutes. 🤷♀️
“Mike Elias is gonna be in the booth in the 2nd inning” Me: what’s the call in number.
Book 3, Crusade. Also Starred by PWeekly, which said "This sterling conclusion to an impressive fantasy epic will leave readers cheering." openroadmedia.com/ebook/crusad...
Stillbright, Book 2, of which Publisher's Weekly called in a Starred Review "..heroic fantasy far above the usual hack-and-slash, raising compelling questions about morality and belief in a tale full of excitement and high-stakes action" also re-releases next week! openroadmedia.com/ebook/stillb...
I will not enter summer reading list discourse I will not OKAY JUST ONE THING the people saying "just ask kids to read any 3 books they want and write reports" are DEFINITELY not teachers and are never gonna be, huh
