If, ten years ago, someone had told you that people could subscribe to a service that can authoritatively fake everything from legal opinions and expert witness reports to determinations about recidivism and insurance claims you’d have said, “ban whatever that is immediately.”

Reminds me a lot of some of the claims that @sonjadrimmer.bsky.social has been making about what the real use of AI is -- deferment of responsibility and the broad filibustering of the basic functions of civil society.

i feel like the fandom obsession with things being Canon™ has led to so many people having no idea how to handle something being Implied but not outright stated. which leads to picking up on clues intentionally left by the author being given the same weight as headcanons pulled out of thin air

it's really eye opening once you realize just how much of rural/red state politics is "keeping the same wealthy families as wealthy as possible" and "funneling state funds from the working poor to upper middle class families so they can start their fifth business"

If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.

Nearly every mobile game I’ve ever worked on is gone, “sunsetted” rather than made playable on current OSes. Their titles mean nothing to recruiters and hiring managers, let alone players. Even if players remember them fondly, they couldn’t play them anymore if they wanted to.

true but I think it is even closer to the individual: it was pioneered by those who grew up seeing the erosion of the cozy 'third space' where you're welcome and people hang out. liminal horror is the exact opposite of these feelings, a reflection of what most of our lived reality is nowadays

The Backrooms is a pretty apt horror mythos for a generation growing up in Ghost Town America. Fake job listings, empty houses, studios spending $200m on a movie just to shelf it for a tax break. We already live in a hollow, uncanny facsimile of American life built by powerful aliens.

This is an example of the way AI is a crystallization (though not the origin) of a post-information epistemic culture that has taken an anti-documentarian turn where information no longer operates as evidence of the real world, and conversely can no longer tell when documents are evidence of fantasy

NEW: Google's AI Overviews are treating entities from the SCP Foundation — the famously fake fan-fiction universe — as if they're real. The AI feature often contextualizes SCP entities as actual discoveries while describing made-up SCP records as "official" documents. futurism.com/artificial-i...

after reading a bit about the state of college in the era of LLMs my honest reaction is what's even the point of college anymore. this isn't me saying LLMs are epic and replacing the need for college. but it sounds like it's just a place where you go to and play pretend now.

I don't think the average "gamer" really understands just how dire it is yet. Like, games are still coming out and things still feel 'normal' if all you do is browse Steam, but the industry is very much hemorrhaging amazing people at an unsustainable rate and you *will* feel it in time.

She had to have known going into this that they were going to bleed this shit dry. They love putting a new face on things and saying they’re turning a corner right before plunging the knife in. Microsoft cannot be saved.

90% of AAA game is either disappointing, too expensive or morally compromised meanwhile there’s like five hundred beautiful indie games out there every day that are like ‘what if we kept making quake but with a half life gravity gun’ or ‘what if there was a new Power Stone but for homosexuals’
