The Ukrainian Air Force reported that air defense forces unfortunately failed to shoot down any Russian missiles overnight.

Dog dad for rent. No fucking genocides. Protect trans kids.
Last night, Kyiv looked like this. Russia targeted the capital with 4 Zircon/Oniks missiles, 24 Iskander-M/S-400 missiles, and 115 strike UAVs including Shahed (mostly jet-powered), Gerbera, and Italmas types, as well as "Parodiya" decoy drones (98 shot down).
The correct answer is a capital levy bc this is a recipe for electing a worse fascist next time.
I fundamentally do not know how to square the politics whereby Democrats will essentially have to tell the American people that because they (the voters) made an extremely stupid decision, they need to lower their expectations substantially for the foreseeable future, but here we are.
It seems really clear that by 2028, we're going to have an empty SPR, substantial munitions shortages, greater strategic challenges, a larger national debt and substantially higher bond rates which will massively constrain future administrations.
Who knew ridiculously long deployments and demanding op tempos run a ship and crew into the ground!
Keeping people constantly deployed has a mounting cost. www.ms.now/news/conditi...
The British Shadow Cabinet system creates an actual opposition party and I like the basic model quite a bit. But here I reluctantly admit that there are some strengths to our leaderless, diffuse opposition style
"But, I must admit, there is something to our headless structure as well. Authoritarians tend to simply jail opposition leaders, to great effect. Does anyone believe that simply jailing Chuck Schumer would do much to demobilize the American opposition?" www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...
Honestly Will can only get away with this because Sir Terry Pratchett is no longer with this and I suspect Will knows this. If Terry Pratchett was alive to see this his very next novel would involve the Bloodless Quant Society as lead by Wont Pencil.
You're in your Heinlein Era. You're Harsh Mistress-Pilled. You're line marriage-maxxing.
They could always sign up to give comment at a public meeting.
New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Yep. We really need to start treating LLMs like other tech and regulate it. We're already seeing some publishers worry about copyright of AI-altered (or generated) text.
I'm not defending all the AI, especially the chatbots, that is out there right now. But to regulate it properly, it's going to take more than "ew chatbots". I think we should start with "if your health insurance bot denies a claim that hurts a patient, pay $50,00,000"
Seconded. It’s wrong on principle, it’s unamerican—we rejected religious tests for office and dual loyalty smears with JFK, Jewish Americans, more—and every minority (especially but not exclusively religious) should recognize it as yet another assertion that only white Christians are real Americans.
i really have no patience whatsoever for people who are scared of muslims having elected office
We sat Noel this week and I want to share how much she radiates joy
this is, to put it mildly, not great for El-Sayed

honestly, the fact that we have made it through the atomic age *without* another use of nuclear weapons since 1945 is a miracle we don't fully appreciate
Today is the day the story There Will Come Soft Rain is set. An amazing and heartbreaking work of fiction for our modern age. Read it here:
I think “I am the protagonist of life” is the main psychological appeal of this kind of conspiracism. You risked nothing, you did nothing, and other real people are suffering the things you’re pretending to think are bad, but in the end you’re the great hero for surviving your imagination.
TVs, man. Jesus fucking christ the TV looks so good now.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Two more GOP amendments go down to crushing defeats, both in MO. #4 would have made future ballot initiatives impossible to pass by requiring winning a majority statewide *and* in each congressional district. #5 would have eliminated the state income tax.

Ukraine just systemically erasing sectors of the Russian economy one at a time like it’s my wife picking tomatoes out of our garden—give it two or three days and they’ll be back at it with another fruitful haul.
This is the kind of thing that only happens to people who have no one in their lives who will tell them the truth about their terrible ideas.
A congressman sent his staffer a box with a puzzle inside. Once she put the puzzle together it revealed a hand-written note inviting her on a date to an Adam Sandler show.
Grant could have escaped samsara but remained...
whose to say that isn't Grant himself, having reincarnated until he achieved true happiness
Ulysses Grant Dietz is a terrific person. He was chief curator of the Newark Museum, working at that museum his entire career, from 1980 to 2017. His specialty was decorative arts, and he led the staff team that overhauled the reinstallation of galleries after a major renovation.
Indeed. Not only an eloquent and prolific writer, also famously had no fondness for conflict.
