Anyone know why a newspaper owned by the Fourth Lord Rothermere, who inherited a fortune from the Third Lord Rothermere, who inherited his money from the Second Lord Rothermere, who inherited it from the First Lord Rothermere, is so strongly opposed to inheritance tax?
For me, it comes down to this: when compounding crises threaten our water supply, do we want corporations and billionaires in control of it?
Thames Water is a zombie company, kept alive by debt. Take it into Special Administration. That way cash from customer bills can go straight into sewage and water infrastructure rather than servicing the debt. Then take it into public ownership. We can't afford privatisation.
I was asked "What do other countries do about big money in politics?" Canada is a useful case study as their parliamentary system closely mirrors the UK's (for obvious reasons) - except they've totally clamped down on mega-donations.

Only individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents can make contributions and it's capped at $1,750 a year. They still have functioning parties and the sky hasn't fallen in. £72 million from 2 individuals - both of whom have faced questions about money laundering, both of whom live/d overseas to avoid tax - is not compatible with democracy. I don't care if it's Reform, Labour or whoever. We can't function like this. Not for long. So how do we fix it? My plan:
