The funniest thing about this, outside of the demand to see a "historically accurate" movie about Greek gods and sea monsters, is that Mel Gibson's Braveheart was notorious for being one of the most historically inaccurate movies ever made -- because it was largely based on a fictionalized poem.

Elon Musk fan boy tweets: I want Elon Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.

Elon Musk then says "I'm down," prompting MAGA grifters to lose their shit.

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

Greek soldiers rampage out of large walled horse WHY IT MATTERS: the towers of Ilium have been toppled ZOOM IN: this is great news for MENELAUS, bad news for PRIAM SPLIT SCREEN: Cassandra vindicated but it’s Odysseus who gets the win

LOL just reading through comments from the copy-editor and, well, let's just say I'm not convinced that the copy-editor has really been doing much actual reading of my text here with these queries.. Screenshot of my paragraph for context here... Snort.

Screenshot of copy-editor queries, where they ask:

AU: 'Armada (1588)' is cited in the text, but not provided in the list. Please provide complete reference details.

AU: 'Gunpowder Plot (1605)' is cited in the text, but not provided in the list. Please provide complete reference details.

The screenshot includes my replies, which explain that 'Ha, the Armada is an event, not an author. Readers will understand this'. And 'Another haha from me - the Gunpowder Plot is an event, not a reference.... Readers will understand this'. This providential script is intensified in the central panel. Below, scenes of the Armada (1588) and the Gunpowder Plot (1605) figured national deliverance. Above, under the citation of Numbers 9:17, the Israelites are visualised as an early modern army wielding pikes and muskets. At the summit, Apocalypse 21 and Hebrews 11 (‘Thes were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. God hath prepared for them a city’) presented a New Jerusalem as the eschatological horizon. Read bottom to top, the central panel invited viewers to see recent English preservations and future arrival in the heavenly city as a

i grew up in china when china was a low-trust (in terms of safety standards) society, so here’s some pasts that might be in our future in the Age of Diarrhea: * wash your own tableware with boiling water as pre-meal ritual at restaurants OR conspicuous glass-front UV-C santization machine for same

"Providence will bring about its own ends by its own means; And if it intends the downfal of a nation, that nation will be so blinded by its pride, and other passions, as not to see its danger, or how its fall may be prevented." ~ Benjamin Franklin, 1768 #America250

And not to go to town on this, but even if you do it “quietly” it is wildly impermissible for a civil enforcement agency w/o a warrant to go around yanking people out of cars. Both Lorenzo Salada Arajo and Joan Sebastian Guerro would be alive today if ICE was not trying to yank people out of cars.

So it’s been probably at least 6 ballistic missiles detected in direction of Kyiv tonight , explosions, fallen debris, fire, burning cars , hit near the school , windows blown out and it feels so mundane I barely even found the energy to type this . pretty sure it

folks, we’re never getting rid of this guy. there’s a right wing grievance machine that’s going to scoop him up. he’ll be headlining grifter events for a few years. there will be podcasts. the only good news is that the machinery of all that seems to be stunted post-Orban.

I get the “now we never need to hear about this guy again” impulse but 1) I doubt he goes quietly back to fake farming oysters and 2) some of these issues are so serious they actually should demand follow up free of fear of losing a senate seat
