It’s my four year work anniversary at Double 11 today, and I feel very fortunate to be employed in video games - what with the state of the whole industry - at a decent employer. I’ve worked out that it’s also my 40 year anniversary of actually starting work in video games! Less for murder, etc.

We're in the era of incompetence & cybercrimes headlined as "unprecedented model capabilities gone rogue." So OpenAI & Anthropic are trying to one up each other with such incompetence because the "press release as a service" performing media & clueless politicians parrot pre IPO CEO talking points.

All money, minus processing fees for itch, goes to out of work game developers to pay for food, housing, healthcare, and whatever they need to make it through. Neither we as the organizers nor UVW take any of the money from the bundle. Game developers can apply here: uvw-cwa.org/hardship-fun...

Now this is how you approach a homebrew game on an odd console! Painstaking research, talking to people who worked on the original, learning assembly on the fly, making physical carts and adapters, then carefully documenting it. No Claude in sight.

This points to a wider problem in British culture, media and politics. The UK just seems to either not care or actively hate its non-traditional soft power @2000ad.bsky.social is almost 50yrs old, Games Workshop is a global phenomenon. You’d think these would be celebrated more as British excellence
