1/14 A brief break from #TheHormuzCrisis. I've never really explained why the phrase "put the Navy in the Channel" to stop #SmallBoat crossings isn't, in itself, a serious maritime strategy. It sounds decisive. From a maritime perspective though, it raises far more questions than it answers.

It's impossible to exonerate the internet, and social media in particular here. It allowed for the efficient networking and ratcheting-up of our worst impulses at unbelievable speed and scale. In-group/out-group dynamics are as old as the hills, but social media is a particle accelerator for them.

So it's not merely white supremacy or nostalgia for the days when the West ruled. Nor is it happening purely in developed post-material countries.

"Remigration" is the polite term for forced deportations of unwanted minorities and ethnic cleansing. The punishment for being a "traitor" is execution. But yeah, you've got to stay on Twitter for baseball highlights or some shit. I get it.

This is quite clever. Nothing remotely like Starmer’s bank manager comms. A bit light hearted…but ordinary bloke too.
