Head of Tech at Patriot Software. Guitarist. Enjoys talking about Nuxt, k8s, Platform, infra, o11y, Linux, Rust, .NET, and leadership ideas. Husband&dad.

Bought a fountain pen on a whim and think I’m hooked. I’d been going all in with AI note taking, assistants, etc. I was getting solid coaching notes too but feeling like I couldn’t keep anything in my head anymore. It’s refreshing going back to pen and paper for tasks and notes.

Building with AI has made me even more healthily detached from what I make for fun. Naming used to be hard and feel permanent. Now I just enjoy making up names that make me laugh. Did I release a crate this morning for ts client generation from Axum routes called axfetchum? Yeah. And I’m delighted.

It’s been a blast building more than ever with AI. Legit explored more ideas in the last 3 months than probably the last year or more. Didn’t see myself running out of private GHA minutes, but with the new move to paid self hosted, moved to Forgejo.

It’s near the end of the year and if you have L&D funds left here is my Eng leadership/platform must read list - Accelerate - The Manager’s Path - The Staff Engineer Path - Platform Engineering - Implementing SLOs

Been having some fun testing out ChatGPT’s guitar pedal settings recommendations based on super specific gear. It’s needed some prompting to go look up exact control names, but had some surprisingly good results so far. Like most things in the AI realm, good for getting 60-70% there faster.

Came across some footage from earlier this year playing with Eric B Turner. The second clip was probably the most fun part of the night — love getting to lock in with a great band and having new ideas come together organically live.
