Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google. My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence! go.bsky.app/8cn1XfT

Far too many people in tech want to enable harm, they find surveillance and manipulation amusing and acceptable. I’ve seen it in many teams I’ve worked with and here it is writ large: an assumption that mediocre security awareness work could be used in natsec. Pathetic but shows their goals.

"The unfettered introduction of AI (…) undermines our basic pedagogical values and the principles of scientific integrity. It prevents us from maintaining our standards of independence and transparency. And most concerning, AI use has been shown to hinder learning and deskill critical thought.”

Open Letter: Stop the Uncritical Adoption of AI Technologies in Academia It's been a year & people tell me they've changed their mind, feel safer now to sign, etc. So I'm sharing it again for them. We're almost at 2k & anybody from anywhere can add their names. openletter.earth/open-letter-...

We call upon you to:

• Resist the introduction of AI in our own software systems, from Microsoft to OpenAI to Apple. It is not in our interests to let our processes be corrupted and give away our data to be used to train models that are not only useless to us, but also harmful.

• Ban AI use in the classroom for student assignments, in the same way we ban essay mills and other forms of plagiarism. Students must be protected from de-skilling and allowed space and time to perform their assignments themselves.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Despite this overwhelming evidence the Thai gov't is about to roll out the red carpet to Min Aung Hlaing & ASEAN limited resolve weakens. The Peoples of Myanmar deserve better than their suffering being brushed under the carpet, they need support & the Junta needs to be destroyed.

The resistance in Myanmar isn't always easy to donate to directly One place is: www.liberatemyanmar.net There are also orgs doing humanitarian aid work in areas the Junta won't allow aid to get to which also helps! Kachin Relief Fund: kachinrelief.org.uk Karen Women's Organisation: karenwomen.org

Raoul Vaneigem—Situationist, author, and lifelong aspiring revolutionary—has passed away at the age of 92. "Let ten people meet who are resolved on the lightning of violence rather than the long agony of survival; from this moment, despair ends and tactics begin." —The Revolution of Everyday Life

RIP Raoul Vaneigem 😪. "Les stupides résurgences du nationalisme et des religions ne sont que l'écume dérisoire du vrai danger : l'acquiescement suicidaire au sort qui nous est fait et par lequel une économie en dépérissement nous enjoint de dépérir avec elle." (1996) Toujours d'actualité.

The consequence of swallowing toxic #AI ideology? A dynamo of glassy-eyed energetic confidence—a blinkered worldview of seething internal contradiction, projected outward onto the hated other. The consequence of rejecting it? Anxiety, self-doubt, despair—a clear view of the horror and loss.

If useful, here's my attempt to process my feelings about how I feel sadly kinda — or rather very — sick from all this AI fascist nonsense as an academic. 😶‍🌫️ I'd be pleased if even one person finds something useful because there's something to be said for processing this all together, so, um, enjoy?

I'm pretty much only here to remind people that fascism & AI are inexorably intertwined. Thinking for ourselves is good: it's one of the best things a human can do. There's nothing I enjoy more than not being here & doing my research, but if we don't push back, the things we enjoy are under threat.

It feels many only know my work pushing back against AI, which is very fair — but I have a broader research interest, which also forms a protective belt against such forces, as well as being what I have been thinking about since discovering "cognitive science" in ~2006: 🍃 metatheory.space 1/

I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

I saw Sian Berry (Green MP) marching with amnesty in Brighton Pride today. She was holding a sign that said Pride started with a protest, whilst walking with an organisation who has legitimised hate groups. If we could leave the country we would. Love & understanding for those who can & do leave.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.
