So, people of Reading, did you struggle to sleep last night? It was the warmest night on record for the town. The minimum (20.9°C) was warmer than typical June daytime maximum temperatures. Burning fossil fuels has made this heatwave hotter than it would have been without those emissions.

We told you these heatwaves were coming but ghg emssions not yet going down (Stott et al, Nature , 2004 showing 2003 heat as regular occurrence). We're now saying West Antarctic ice sheet in imminent peril and huge irreversible sea level rise would result: would be good idea to listen this time.

Fantastic memories of them filming A Very Peculiar Practice in my halls of residence at Birmingham uni, being allowed to stay in our room while Peter Davison (in pjs) filmed in the corridor - and being told to be quiet as we made too much noise - and chatting to the nuns in a stairwell!

For the first time ever, heat pumps outsold gas boilers in Germany in 2025. 48% of all new heating systems installed last year were heat pumps. Gas fell to just 39%. A decade ago, heat pumps had a 7% market share. The transformation has been remarkable.
