"The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy". As long as the protest is not about Palestine, climate or any other issue that major lobbyists want to shut down. If you're protesting about asylum seekers, on the other hand, your concerns are legitimate, and we're making policy in response.

Quietly reflect? Cameron and Osborne (who let's face it we're the 2 specific architects building condominiums in sand and destroying most of Society's fabric) have been far too busy lining their own pockets to reflect quietly or otherwise.
I watched a bit of @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social last night. In a whole "debate" about protests and violence in the Thetford, the asylum seekers were only ever referred to as a problem. Not even a passing consideration of them as humans beings; who they are, where they've come from, what they need.
As an aside, those politicians who created the current crisis - increasing prison sentences for tabloid applause while cutting prisons and courts to the bone - may want to quietly reflect on their culpability, instead of running for the megaphone in an unedifying fumble for clicks.
I have enormous sympathy with people angry that the political vandalism of our prison system is forcing the (even earlier) release of prisoners. It is a scandal. But deciding who does and does not get released on the basis of the volume of public outcry at their crime is the road to madness.
I know he has a lot on, but in the midst of a ferocious drought, fires, heat events and severe threats to food production, it would be quite edifying to hear Andy Burnham mention climate breakdown.

I've been reflecting on the 'parity of esteem' and technical education debate. I think, partly because of my own experience, I weight engagement in school high. Engagement is obviously a pre-requisite for high standards. But engagement also offers so much more to young people.
