Bringing car traffic to one of our most popular parks isn’t a compromise; it’s a closure. We’re not done fighting for Sunset Dunes. Follow us to stay informed as this develops.
🎂 Happy First Birthday to Sunset Dunes! One year in: 📈 1.7M total visits, 39,000 avg weekly visits 🛒 Revenue increases of up to 44% at local businesses 🚗 Crashes are down in the neighborhood And so much more! Thank you for making the park’s first year so successful! We’re just getting started.
Beach weather? @sunsetdunes.org
Lots of buzz online about an upcoming major March heatwave for the American SW & California. And in this case, it does indeed appear increasingly likely than an extremely anomalous and even record-breaking heatwave may envelop much of the SW about a week from now.
🚧 ICYMI, GREAT HIGHWAY HIGHS + LOWS: The closed roadway is expected back on the ballot in November, and no one has checked in recently on claims of traffic speeds and street safety. Kristi Coale dug in to see what's happened on D4 streets ~1 year post- @sunsetdunes.org. thefrisc.com/perception-v...

Nearly one year into a new era, do claims about congestion and danger hold up?

Putting weekday cars thru Sunset Dunes Park reqs >$15M in signal upgrades. Ancient traffic signals were removed at 7 intersections for safety reasons. Replacement reqs updating to current standards @sunsetdunes.org
From Lucas Lux in @sfstandard.com After so many defeats — at the ballot box, in the courts, and at City Hall — Sunset Dunes opponents need to lay down arms, and embrace the city’s newest coastal park. sfstandard.com/opinion/2026...
We host free activities at the park every week! And starting this year, we’re excited to announce two new ones: Traditional Chinese Dance and Zumba classes sunsetdunes.org/events/
Frustrating that we live in an era where politicians can just lie to create whatever compelling-sounding argument they want. Supervisor Wong claimed that creating Sunset Dunes doubled traffic injuries in the district. That sounds really bad, except it's also horse apples.
Recently, to justify his political stunt and waste SF voters’ time with a third ballot measure, Supervisor Alan Wong is willfully misrepresenting data. He’s been claiming that Sunset Dunes is causing “traffic injuries in District 4 to nearly double.” 🤦That’s patently false.
Just in: Supervisor alanwongsf failed to get the required signatures from fellow Supervisors to place another ballot measure targeting Sunset Dunes before SF voters. It’s time to move forward and focus on improving our coastal park together. SF has made a decision, and the park is here to stay.
Rode my bike through the Panhandle, along JFK Promenade and through the park to Sunset Dunes at sunset. Gorgeous night. Skaters skating, a DJ spinning mellow sunset beats. So many people out in all the parks. A beautiful celebration of recent victories in the war on cars, SF front. 14 fun miles.
Last week, we hosted a forum with the Sunset Dunes community and Supervisor Alan Wong. Outer Sunset Neighbors poured their hearts out, telling him how much the park means to them. We’re disappointed that he’s choosing to ignore our perspectives entirely with his attempt to close the park.
Oh, I should’ve tagged @sunsetdunes.org here - what an amazing gift to everyone in the city this is! And one more image - my boy, top of a tentacle at sunset as behind him a skater flies up the ramp - what a spot!
Traffic safety and volume data are readily available. Methodologies vary, but trends are clear. congestion.sfcta.org shows volume and delay pre-COVID to present in SF. While congestion is up elsewhere, @sunsetdunes.org park shows minor increase in Sunset Blvd traffic -- and improvement in 19th Ave

We keep hearing about all the terrible traffic weekdays because of @sunsetdunes.org Bumper to bumper (dogs and walkers and a guy playing the piano) Friday rush hour
Data, unlike D4 Supervisor Alan Wong, doesn't lie. "No Evidence the Upper Great Highway Closure Made Sunset Streets Less Safe"

🚨Breaking News: an SF Superior Court just rejected the lawsuit attempting to overturn Prop K, dismissing all four claims.

🎅🎊🎁 What an incredible year at Sunset Dunes! From us and @johnelliott.bsky.social, we hope you have a wonderful holiday and New Years! We’ll see you at the park.
As Outer Sunset residents, we know firsthand how unfounded the traffic nightmare claims are. Don’t believe us (or city data, or any maps app)? See for yourself.
To give you a break in the very bleak skyline, I made it out for a sunset bike ride for the first time since getting a stupid cold. It's one of the distinct December joys in San Francisco, especially now that we have Sunset Dunes Park. So peaceful and beautiful. Many people out enjoying.
🚨📸 Sunset Neighbors — we need your help! Our new District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong wants to hear from you about what Sunset Dunes means to you. While it’s become a beloved community space in the Sunset (on top of being one of SF’s most popular parks), opponents currently have his ear.

What a new chef means for this S.F. brunch institution
There’s a new chef in the kitchen at one of San Francisco’s most beloved restaurants, but fear not: The Dutch baby pancake and slabs of crusty sourdough bread aren’t going anywhere.
