Didn't take long for the NHS transphobic guidance to claim a life
She was murdered by transphobia 😥😥😥
I'm going to say it again because it needs saying. Trans women are women, trans men are men, and gender is a social construct that does not fit a neat binary. As a cis woman, I do not feel in any way threatened by my trans siblings.
Do other academics have recurring tasks of the form of "chase <topic> paper status"? Am very please today to delete one. Finally online almost exactly 11 months after acceptance!
Reminder that "biological sex" is not a thing that exists. It is a legal fiction in every place that refers to it. In the UK, in the equality act, it means "the sex that was written on your original birth certificate." Incidentally, it doesn't matter if that's due to a clerical error.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to update my medical ethics slides since we clearly haven't learned from Tuskegee and all its horrible little siblings
The easiest test of medical ethics is whether or not researchers would do the study to who they consider to be “their own people” There’s a reason they aren’t running this study in Denmark.
Very very frustrating when couples can get married in churches because they like the aesthetics, but those who regularly attend for years and truly want God to be part of their lives and relationships cannot.
This is a good example of why I am not a fan of the pivot to podcasts/audio articles. It says it takes 6 minutes to read (actually about 3 mins max), but 9 minutes to listen to. Audio is just such a SLOW way to consume words.

This is the funniest thing I've seen today, possibly ever
never going to forget this one, after a colleague renamed the P as "pisslessness"
If you're in my GP's office any time soon, prepare yourself for what many are calling the greatest mnemonic of all time. Come for E and P, but sit down and clap for I.
Really disappointed that we (the church) are still doing this. Can we please not? And no, it doesn't matter if the course is outside the church auspices, which I sincerely hope it is. This is how spiritual abuse is perpetuated.
Very reassuring that the Diocese of Leicester has hired a new 'Director of Vocations' who is a trustee of a group which creates and promotes a course that requires participants to sit in a group and confess to "homosexuality", among a collection of "perverted sins".
Years ago, I was walking home late one night, and a drunk guy was harassing me - trying to get me to go home with him, pushy sex comments, etc. After a few mins, his mate turned to him and said, firmly but not aggressively, "MATE. leave her alone, yeah?" And he did. I think about him all the time.
But I don't know anything about tapes or digitisation or anything like that. I don't even know how I would play this. I don't even know if it's still in good enough condition to play. So my question is... How? How do I take these two tapes, this two part performance, and make the choir live again?
We're publishing new guidance to support trans people who do fieldwork (any work outside the office)! Now we need your help to get them seen so please share! inclusivefieldwork.leeds.ac.uk/trans/
Suddenly reminded of the time I went through every key for two churches to discover that we did not, in fact, have a key to turn the fire alarm off. While the fire alarm was going off. After I set it off. To test it. (This is how I discovered that one of my friends can pick locks)
We are a very old building. We have lots of keys. We have lots of keys that don’t open anything. Join us for a one off installment of, “Keys of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall that are pretty but completely useless”. 🔑 🧵
I can fully sympathise with this - chronic migraines are truly disabling, both physically and mentally. I was lucky to have a supportive GP, but even so the years of trying and failing meds and waiting for specialist appointments were miserable. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Oral CGRPs have been a life-changer for me. Exciting that (at least in some places) they can now be started in primary care after failing only three preventatives!
Apparently it's migraine awareness week in UK. And a new national online pathway and decision tool for headache has just launched. gettingitrightfirsttime.co.uk/girft-marks-...

As much as it's clearly a question of basic human morality that the RNLI save everyone they can, regardless of circumstances, what is the alternative being proposed by the far right? They're volunteers - are we suggesting they should have the power to determine who lives and dies at sea?
Once again reflecting that whatever you think of “social graces” as a model, “social GGRRAAACCEEESSS” has to be the most useless mnemonic in the world.
Hey do we know anyone in bury st Edmund’s??
extremely niche but important question: does anyone know of any charity or service that can help get supplies to someone in hospital in bury st edmund’s i’ve got a friend who was brought in by ambulance yesterday and they need to stay at least another night, and they don’t have anything

An open letter in support of the volunteers and staff at the RNLI
This is a disgrace. Brave RNLI volunteers being called scum for risking their lives to save others at sea is just plain wrong. So I've signed an open letter of thanks for the RNLI letting them know th...

Whether you need them is because you're doing something illegal, unwise, or just unlucky, the RNLI will put their lives at risk to help you. We do not appreciate how fortunate the British Isles are to have them (they work in Ireland too.)
think it is probably worth pointing out that the entire reason the RNLI relies on donations and is not funded like the fire service or police is precisely to allow it to stay entirely independent of whatever government is in power so you know, it's worth keeping it going rnli.org/support-us/g...
If you can afford to, now is a great time to donate to the RNLI.
I believe the RNLI are responding to legitimate concerns that people might drown.
