If you go onto Bluesky and trash Vimes’ Boots you are quite plainly looking for a fight. The quality of your argument is beside the point, you are here to push buttons.
Da iawn kids, I am so getting the Butty in for this
MAY S4C BE WITH YOU
I want to pay taxes for roads I don't drive on, schools for children I don't have, training for doctors to do operations I will never need, and I don't understand how hard it is for some people to fathom that society, humanity is caring about things beyond one's own personal benefit.
Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.
Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth
One thing i think we need to be clear on is that the “nine years” is almost entirely getting Drs to take us seriously. These tests need to be cheap and easily available enough that Drs are incentivised to use them very widely, or else the actual issue will continue.
Endometriosis takes nine years to diagnose. That’s about to change. NICE has approved two tests: a saliva test reading microRNA markers, and a gut-sensor test returning results in 45 minutes, sparing women the keyhole surgery currently needed. buff.ly/QX3jHk8 #ShareGoodNewsToo
Just spent 2 hours searching AO3 for a fic I read ~12 years ago and used as a 'if you write a chapter today you can read a chapter later' carrot and I FOUND IT It is 126,000 words and I haven't been this thrilled by anything in ages
Lemme tell you about the angel of history being blown backwards into the future: The shackles these people have been put in are Hiatt brand, same company founded in 1780 to mass produce shackles for slaver ships.
The use of extremely online memetic aesthetics to support far-right political goals is like something out of Walter Benjamin’s nightmares.
I join you from the Blaenavon wildfire in Southeast Wales, brought to you by BP, Shell and Equinor. Though it does not look dramatic, the fire has been out of control for days - for a very particular reason. 🧵
Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully
Alt: Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully from The X-Files. She is looking profoundly underwhelmed, one eyebrow quirked in dismay, and slightly shaking her head.

You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
There's a whole other 'you made WHOSE backstory' here, but meanwhile impressed by this capturing my already-existing mental image of this human man person
Johnny Depp surprised fans at Comic-Con by showing up unannounced at an unrelated panel in character as Ebenezer Scrooge.
The post-credits scene of EBENEZER reveals the "what day is it" boy to be Oliver Twist, launching Phase 1 of the Dickensverse.
friends, please: don’t use transreads dot org they claim to support trans authors, but take our entire texts, post them for free, fundraise off it, and have the gall to claim it’s about preservation they are literally taking money from trans creators and make it harder for us to keep creating
Hard recommend for watching the timeline instead of the match, half time has been especial lols
I've filled this in. It isn't very fun talking about how creative incomes are tiny and unpredictable, and some of the questions are silly ('don't know' is always ok when it's something it would be their job to figure out), but it feels worthwhile. www.gov.uk/government/c...

Self-employed people! Sorry to put a downer on your Sunday, but in case you'd not seen, the Government wants us to pay our tax *monthly* like we're employees or something With the World Cup and all the politics, I'd missed the consultation they put out last month, which is here: 1/

All of this – it's SO publishing. This initiative, while no doubt well-meaning, IS misguided, like Mark said. It's self-congratulatory and so middle class in its focus and imagination that it boggles my mind. It's ignored all of the work already being done by some incredible people and orgs.
An interesting and thoughtful thread about the national year of reading and this giveaway.
Have many thoughts about this and the wider Year of Reading. Want to say this up front: - I really like Impossible Creatures (& Rundell herself seems ace) so this isn’t about that. - I think this is a lovely idea - Whilst it’s nice, I think that this initiative is a little misguided

I feel for everyone looking to @amnestyuk.bsky.social for support while their human rights are under attack by transphobic new guidelines, saw them standing up, and now see them grovel for daring to start a fight with JKR's £££. Fight, gdi. What are you for if you don't fight?
BREAKING… These are going out to all the hate groups mentioned by @amnestyuk.bsky.social. This one went out to the creatures of LGB Alliance. After all, we are only transes… We are expendable.
Football's weird innit? I watch rugby, tennis, roller derby. Usually there's an ebb and flow, a change of lead where the all-or-nothing is only in a tie-break once a set, or a converted try, or a jam start where the jammer and the piv are in the bin. Football is just YES or FUCK or dull stuff.
I spoke to a covid ward doctor who was treating patients wearing a paper mask and a flimsy apron. The trust refused to let her appear on TV. NHS staff DIED because of the corruption and profiteering that was encouraged by the Johnson government and Gove was at the heart of that
Left: Michael Gove on BBC News, "Some of the PPE we ordered was deficient, that's because we were maintaining high standards" Right: Nurses wearing bin bags for PPE
The Sam Neill tributes and quotes and clips today have been such a tonic. What a joy to have lived life so well, to have spoken and acted on your convictions, to have been loved and respected by so many peers and strangers. Like, we can't all be in Jurassic Park but we can aim for that, a bit, right
Visiting my mum this week and somewhere in town is a live music thing that appears to be audible everywhere I go. I thought 'Hey Jude but incredibly fast' wasn't great but now some Welshmen are doing Jump In The Line and I'm so glad I'm not quite close enough to tell if they are 'doing the accents'
Academia is classic game and metagame. The ‘game’ is acquiring skills and knowle by dge so you can produce a paper , the metagame is ‘producing a paper’ and that’s all you’re marked on, hence cheating and shortcutting that means you win the metagame while opting out of the game.
The thing is, 95% bullshitting a paper is actually doing most of the important skills development work of writing a paper . "The point of writing a paper is to have a good final product" is something believed by people who paid others to write their papers but somehow they run universities now
