Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

We have just witnessed France’s hottest day in recorded history. The severity of this heatwave is truly hard to comprehend. Over 50 millions people will be under red-level extreme heat warnings tomorrow. Sadly, what’s going on there is a foreshadowing of our future. Data: DWD/Météo France

While we cook in Europe, it's worth remembering that this isn't just a European story. Across the Arctic and other high-latitude regions, temperature anomalies are reaching extraordinary levels, with some areas forecast to be >10–20°C above historical averages. The climate signal is global.

++BREAKING++ Leading climate scientists in the UK have written to senior editors in broadcast media - and OFCOM and IPSO: "To express our concern about recent media coverage of extreme weather, climate change and net-zero and to urge you…to inform public audiences of the scientific links"

On my way to Paris, in the midst of the heatwave, not looking forward to two days in a scorching city 🥵 (currently at 40 degrees). 🔥 Heat waves like this are becoming more and more likely due to climate change. I fear the record for the warmest day broken yesterday won't stand long.

France is experiencing scorching heat, with most of the population exposed to extreme temperatures. The heat is expected to last until at least the end of the week. n.pr/43Sebxt

🥰 📣 BREAKING NEWS 📣 France has announced a climate roadmap that aims explicitly to phase out coal by 2030, oil by 2045, and "gas for energy purposes" by 2050!! This is a historic moment, the first time a major economy has pledged *specifically* to phase out fossil fuels. 🙌 💚

Faraco said France had decided to push ahead on its own after a proposal for a global fossil fuel roadmap was blocked at the COP3o climate summit in November. Brazil, which was steering the climate negotiations, agreed to pursue a voluntary roadmap process instead and has asked willing
countries to make submissions. Frustration at COP30 led to the creation of the Santa Marta conference, which is taking place outside the UN process and is being co-hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands. Nearly 60 nations were in attendance, from the European Union and major fossil fuel producers Canada and Norway, to developing oil giants Angola and Nigeria and small island developing states like Tuvalu. Nations are not expected to produce any binding commitments but a set of proposals for countries wanting to move their
own economies away from fossil fuel reliance. The conference takes place against a backdrop of soaring fuel prices and a global supply crunch stemming from the Iran war, and energy security has
been a prominent theme.

Slow Atmospheric Circulations Shape Storm Tracks and Wave-Breaking Patterns - Eos

Connections between fast and slow parts of the atmosphere are analyzed over 35 years to understand the links between storms, weather regimes, and atmospheric wave breaking events.

Reaching net zero by 2050 is often framed as a cost burden. The UK Climate Change Committee’s latest analysis suggests the opposite. The real risk is fossil fuel dependency.

Uncertainty is not your friend: In a new paper published in One Earth, scientists argue that uncertainties in climate projections mean Earth system components could be at a higher risk than we think of reaching crucial tipping points. 🌊 eos.org/articles/ear...

Uncertainty in climate models could mean Earth systems are perilously close to their tipping points, scientists warn.
