Underneath solar panels, plants grew much more and used less water, "Chiltepin pepper plants produced three times as much fruit as those grown in full sun. Jalapenos matched their usual harvest while using 65 percent less water. Tomatoes grown under the array came in at twice the normal yield."

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

As the Gordie Howe Bridge opens, one image stands out: an Ontario ironworker and a Michigan ironworker shaking hands as the two sides of the bridge finally met. A reminder that long after political disputes fade, it's workers who build the connections that last. 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸

I’m still thinking about this. The Deep Space Network is such core infrastructure. It’s huge, international, not very flashy, and utterly vital. I tried to place stories on it for years and rarely succeeded. Funding was always touchy. For repairs…? But without it, our space robots can’t call home.

A new investigation reveals Colorado officials raised concerns internally about Riverstone Academy's Christian curriculum before approving it as a public school anyway. Public education should never be used to fund religious indoctrination. www.chalkbeat.org/colorado/202...

State officials knew “public Christian school” would be religious before it opened. They let it move forward.

State education leaders and lawyers knew Riverstone Academy would be religious before it opened. They gave it a public school code and state funding.

This editorial is indeed blunt, in your face, sweary, and absolutely 100% correct. I'm happy Science published it. It needs to be spread far and wide, because it strips away all the usual mealy-mouthed crap when it comes to discussing Trump and makes it clear who he is and what he's doing.

Alex Wild@alexwild.bsky.social · 2w ago

This is a blunt assessment of what the Trump regime is proposing for US science: they plan to take all the funding, essentially collapsing university-based research, in order to give that money to themselves, and they are lying about it.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Viking 1's landing on Mars I've uploaded this documentary from the Planetary Society's (@planetarysociety.bsky.social) 'Visions of Mars' CD-ROM meant to fly on Russia's Mars 96 mission. I have lovingly recovered and restored the doc from the original CD-ROM. 🙇

Visions of Mars - Viking 1 Landing Documentary 200776

This documentary was created by Jon Lomberg for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's radio show 'Ideas' and originally aired in December of 1976. It was chosen for a CD-ROM called 'Visions of Mars'
