My view is that this proposal coming out now cannot be considered in a vacuum. It should be considered a tool to subvert peer review of NIH proposals. The statements in the RFI about impact scores are actually correct- they are imperfect measures. But reporting them maintains transparency.

elizabethginexi.bsky.social@elizabethginexi.bsky.social · 3d ago

‼️NIH is proposing to change NIH Peer Review outcomes. Instead of impact scores they propose 3 categories: "Most competitive" "Competitive", or "Not discussed" This RFI link will accept your comments/feedback on this proposal until 10/13/26. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Fantastic meeting Jeremy! Thanks to @cilialab.bsky.social @nachury.bsky.social and @sarahgoetz.bsky.social for the superb experience. And excited for Tiffany Terry receiving The Eyelash Award!

Wow! The @faseborg.bsky.social Cilia and Centrosome conference has come to a close. It’s been a wonderful week, replete with trafficking, signaling, structure, membrane biology, metabolism, human genetics, model organisms and even therapeutics. Thank you, happy cilia and centrosome swashbucklers!

Sen. Ossoff: If the President calls Georgia's senators illegitimate, he is calling Georgia's voters illegitimate. Donald Trump tried to commit voter fraud in Georgia when he badgered Brad Raffensperger to "find" him the exact number of votes he needed to win in a state he had lost.

Really excited about our new paper. The 2nd author Carlos Nava Cruz started as an UG, was supported by an diversity NIH supplement, & is completing his masters. C. elegans model for functional analysis of conserved ADPKD variants in cilia, EVs, & signaling academic.oup.com/genetics/art...

Has left people with a sense of learned helplessness...with many willing to wait to let the courts sort things out or...hoping that the damage done before the midterms won’t be that bad. None of that is the case here. There is reason to act, and the time is now. arstechnica.com/science/2026...

Editorial: It's time to step up and have your say for science

Your comments on a dangerous rule putting politicals in charge of science can matter.

So, when submitting your work you should state that “This manuscript is the result of funding in whole or in part by the NIH. Through acceptance of this federal funding, NIH has been given a right to make this manuscript publicly available in PubMed Central upon the Official Date of Publication.”

Many scientists I've been talking to are freaking out about NIH "immediate deposit" mandate and the publishers, like journals in the Nature family, telling them they have to pay ~13k to satisfy the mandate. People have been paying it - but they don't need to.

Does anyone know of a list of journals for which uploading author-accepted version of manuscript to PMC does not violate journal copyright permitting compliance with NIH policy? Many some Institution’s library has done this?

“The drug that kept me alive for my children was built on a foundation of public investment. Taxpayers funded the research and the clinical trials. This country made a long bet on science, and I’m alive because it paid off.” www.ms.now/opinion/canc...

I joined first responders in prayer this afternoon as they work to battle the wildfires that are active in Brantley County and southern Georgia. These crews are doing heroic work to protect lives and property. Check in on your neighbors and stay safe, Georgia.
