I may be peaceful, but I'm pissed. Policy Wonk, Gardener, Seattleite and Native Texan

There are more than 52,000 Black people in Seattle. That's larger than the population of 255 cities in Washington. So can we please stop talking about "the Black community" as though it's a monolith?

This needs to be a front page story. Everyone knows we have a structural budget problem. Council knows you can't fund a new program from the general fund without taking it from another program. Yet all the CMs calling for "AUDITS" and fiscal responsibility refuse to say what cuts they will make.

I'm surprised to see this being reported elsewhere is "council funds school meals AND food vouchers, yay." Paying for additional things out of the general fund means cutting other things—and this council doesn't like to make cuts (especially to police). And there's already a $175 million deficit.

I disagree with some Stranger endorsements, but not their support of @rebeccasaldana1.bsky.social D2 County Council. As they say, "Rebecca Saldaña has one of the strongest progressive records in the last decade of Washington politics." She's wonky, she's earnest, and she gives a damn.

Rainier Beach Skatepark is nearing completion of Phase 1 to provide youth and families with a dedicated place to enjoy wheeled activities! To complete the planned community art elements, we need to raise $80,000. Will you donate today and help us make this vision a reality?

I'm calling this another win for the former D2 Crew! Congrats to @devinsilvernail.bsky.social who supported my office in passing the Just Cause Eviction ordinance a few years ago. First Social Housing, then LWB, now this. Gratifying to know we made a material difference for Seattle.

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you really should watch & share this news story. It’s pretty much perfect. Ford claims wrongly that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data. toronto.citynews.ca/video/2024/1...

Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes

Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

Fyi, for the people who were heckling us today. Here's what happened to the sidewalk repairs. It was former Mayor Harrell. And there was $120K of TIB funding set aside for LWB safety improvements that got yanked from the project because of his delays of the safety improvements.

So I finally got my Lake Washington Boulevard sidewalk repair FOIAs back. Guess what, former Mayor Harrell's administration designated the sidewalk repairs as "low priority." The repairs were slated to happen last summer. www.seattle.gov/parks/about-...
