Not sure the Conservatives want to associate themselves with a leader who harried the north...
The Conservatives have commissioned an 88 foot contemporary Badenoch Tapestry for their party conference
@marcmorris.bsky.social I have just finished The Norman Conquest as I gear up for teaching it to my new Year 7s. Incredible, funny, supremely detailed, scrupulously fair, always engaging: I loved it. Thank you. ☺️
and behold a pale horse. and the name that sat on him was death. and hell followed with him
Josh Babarinde MP: "Our volunteer lifeboat crews. These are people who put their lives on the line for us" 👏 "Anyone who should get in their way is pathetic, unpatriotic, and un-British. We're a country that prides ourselves in bringing people together."
Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.
To be fair to the BBC, they did show this on the main Breakfast report.
Neglecting any mention of Thomas filming himself trying to sink the boat with RNLI rescuers aboard is bordering on disinformation, frankly.
Gustav Holst was born otd, 21 September 1874. He came from a musical family and studied composition at the Royal College of Music, where he developed a lifelong friendship with Ralph Vaughan Williams.
I look forward to this being applied to approving planning applications for housing and reservoirs. (I'm by no means an instinctual YIMBY but we are poor on this).
Britain has sleepwalked into a “computer says no” economy, where businesses face barriers instead of backing. It’s time to get Britain growing again and give people the freedom to succeed. @LibDemDaisy.bsky.social
For me, "doing better" for the Lib Dems means doing more with the MPs they already have. The key question here is "why should you want a large bloc of Lib Dem MPs"? When there are 72 of them, & liberal-democracy is in crisis, they have both an opportunity & an obligation to give a better answer.
Sure, but if we take this as read, what’s the actually existing “better” the Lib Dems should be doing?
The RNLI rescued Luftwaffe pilots in WW2 because the organisation is there to 'save life at sea' - it's something to be immensely proud of. But as I've said many times before Farage and Co don't seem to have pride in Britain and its institutions beyond flags and crap Enoch Powell said 60 years ago.
This should be the moment people finally realise that Farage has turned them into fascists. If you’re choosing this dangerous inhumanity over the rescue work of the RNLI, you’ve lost your minds to racism and hatred.
I simply do not understand what's going on in Labour that renders its leaders incapable of finding a TV camera and speaking out against street violence. Even if you assume they agree about immigration, violence is wrong, unpopular AND against the interests of any even vaguely left wing govt.
Content warning: Multiple men violently assault a female protester at Reform's conference at the Birmingham NEC, to the visible delight of Nigel Farage.
Farage's grinning response says it all. Every day Reform and its supporters reveal themselves for who they are and yet the media continues to treat them as just another normal political party.

One Liverpool seat (Liverpool Scotland) consistently elected an Irish nationalist MP from 1885 onwards. The best bit: he represented the seat from 1885-1929, i.e. after the Treaty. Ended up as Father of the House.
Tell me a fun fact.
As honoured as I am to see that The Times has picked up my Chagos article practically *word for word*, including my hard-gotten quotes, I’d prefer some credit — or for everyone to read my original FT piece! free link to read the evidently enviable article below (cheaper than a Times sub!) 🌴
💷Immediately fund teacher pay awards ⏰Properly enforce legally mandated working hours 🏠New guidance on flexible working 🔺Introduce reasonable limits on overtime The government must listen and introduce our emergency package of 'back to school' measures before it is too late.
A lot of people hate Bolero but I actually quite like it.
"i hate a popular thing" is mostly boring sooooo instead tell me the piece of media you love despite everyone else hating it me? i have many, but the two that spring to mind are Milla Jovovich film Ultraviolet which i own twice accidentally, PS3 game NeverDead, and Super Mario Bros. (film, 1993)

Struggling to work out why Jenrick would single out these three Commonwealth countries rather than, say, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, whose citizens have exactly the same rights. It’s a head-scratcher.
Man attempts a series of jobs before passing the state bar in Louisiana, and then goes on holiday to France.
Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: Chap puts a poster of Rita Hayworth up on his wall.
I remember talking to a fellow Jew who worked at the US embassy a while back, they had some involvement with pro-peace initiatives I’ll never forget them saying “if it gets to a point where nobody will even listen to each other anymore, we are beyond f*cked” Reminded of their words today
On this day, we remember Ralph Vaughan Williams, who died 68 years ago. His works continue to speak with extraordinary warmth, humanity and imagination -from The Lark Ascending to his symphonies, choral music and operas. His music remains alive, resonant and appreciated 🎶
Once made an appointment to give blood. They had to reschedule so the person in charge texted. Whilst responding, I accidentally sent them a picture of former SDP leader David Owen. I had to pretend it was a photo of my granddad.
My column this week is the product of my frustration at a series of myths that I think have grown up at Westminster that provide comfort to the various parties (not all of which I had space to grumble about) to avoid confronting the real choices we actually have:
Austerity denial and the mystery of Britain’s shrunken state
There is a ready supply of explanations on offer at Westminster
