I wound up here by holding on

people with chronic pain warned us at the time but the criminalization of women and minority people’s pain after the opioid crisis is a public health disaster. I’ve had friends denied pain management after hysterectomies, dental extractions and broken bones.

After my c-section, I asked my ObGYN what care at home would look like and what sort of painkiller I'd be prescribed (so my husband could pick it up) and he said OTC Tylenol because by asking, I was "exhibiting drug seeking behavior."

Unbelievable that there are still people replying to this thread and quoting this post giving it the "wah wah thought police" or "write trans fics!" or whataboutism with other bad authors. JK is on another level. She is personally responsible for UK teens getting treatment ripped out of their hands.

JKR explicitly said she considers anything Potter-related, even fan-made, endorsement of her politics. And every time you engage with this franchise, you signal to the industry that there's still money in it and they should keep pumping out content from full-cast audiobooks to book box partnerships.

Just remembered that time when I lived in Levenshulme and wanted to get fitter and went on a jog but ran past the biscuit factory on a baking day and the smell of freshly baked chocolate coated hon-nobs was too much so I bought a packet on the way home

now some of us have been saying for many, many years now these vicious cranks would turn on any and all group they could in making life worse, more hateful, smaller, and more right wing, but the very sensible people in the media insisted they just had honest concerns about women's spaces. well!

a good and necessary project for any future progressive government would be to make very specific legislation under which everyone ever involved with spiked! gets convicted of crimes against humanity

I would rather have pronghorn antelope and bighorn sheep and elk and purple sage and four wing saltbrush than data centers and so far no one in tech has presented a compelling vision for how to have all of those things, they just seize more resources for the plagiarism engine.

Look all I know is that they're driving environmental harm and I don't really care how much help anyone thinks they are at coding, data centers are sucking up water and power at a rate that is harming actual human beings and the world around us and therefore LLMs can get fucked.

was discussing with a fellow traveler today -- but programmers, coders, developers are having an *entirely* different experience of LLM-based products and services than the rest of us, especially the plagiarized plebeians among us (writers, reporters).

wild situation where accessing meta services without a robust adblocker in the UK could mean YOU have committed a criminal offence we are so far past the point where any sort of healthy govt would have clamped down on big tech. the reasons it hasn't are about 25% tech illiteracy, 75% open bribery

NEW: Over the last few months, Meta has run dozens of paid ads that included AI-generated CSAM. The ads, some of which were linking out to “nudify” apps, targeted men in the US, UK, and a dozen European countries. Some were running in the last few days

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
