The creative decisions at Marvel Studios and Disney continue to baffle me. Wonder Man, despite barely being an adaptation of the comics, was still a good show with a lot of potential ahead of it.

I'm struggling with X-Men '97 S2. Season 1 set such a high bar and this season isn't clearing it. It's not bad but some of these storytelling/adaptation decisions don't make sense to me. Maybe DeMayo really was the magic that made this show.
If Nolan's Odyssey is reigniting interest in Greek mythology, can we please get a good Wonder Woman movie/TV show (ideally based on Historia) and, more importantly, a prestige adaptation of Circe by Madeline Miller?
Agreed with all the sentiments in this thread, and also...Christopher Yost? So many great new writers available and we're dipping back into the late naughts for someone? At least get someone talented like Mike Carey, then, and let Yost stick with TV.

So they made too much content, made it all too similar, made it feel like a job to keep up with, made it lower quality, silenced their more artistic voices in favor of commercial concerns, and then when all that predictably didn't work they blamed it on shifting focus towards more-diverse actors.
I think it's pretty simple: Marvel started off very careful to avoid audience fatigue. They hired auteur directors, they made different films feel like different genres, they released new installments at spaced-out intervals, and gradually built to a powerhouse. Then they got greedy.
Noah Berlatsky@nberlat.bsky.social · 2w agoI don't think there's any big explanation of why superhero movies are less successful (or at least less consistently successful.) I think fads are just fads; they stick around for a while then people get bored and move on to the next thing.
I shouldn't have listened to this first thing this morning because now I'm sad 😢 (What a great episode, though. Couldn't have ended any better.)

Akira Yoshida is out as Marvel EiC and returning home to Asia to be an editor there. Stephen Wacker replaces him, but I'm unfamiliar with his work. Hopefully he makes better editorial and marketing decisions than his last couple of predecessors did. www.marvel.com/articles/com...
