"My dream self pockets cheap red pharmacy lipstick and leaves without paying. Dream me savors room-temperature pizza alone in bed" Incredible fractured flash by @thelizcrowder.bsky.social; the way this shifts through time - brilliant

This is the first thing I’ve submitted/had published since my son was born almost four years ago and it’s making me borderline emotional. Happy to be back at it again and grateful to @brettpribble.bsky.social for giving this piece a good home ❤️

writing makes me feel normal. as an author, i still can't accurately describe the feeling or why. it's like all my mental illnesses agree to calm down when im hammering away at a story. my brain behaves, focused on the task at hand. i wonder if the same is true for other authors?

Friends—here are about 55 literary journals opening for submissions in July—some are open now or will close soon in June or July. Genres, themes, & guidelines vary—dates are tentative & all these should be no-fee submissions. There are more resources out there, including on here. Wish y’all well.

Lately I’ve been despairing about librarianship, then last night I got a lovely message from a former library teen (that I haven’t seen in 18 years) who thanked me for welcoming/ inspiring her and now she’s in the library tech program. And now I’m like OK FINE I’M NOT DONE YET.

I am hardly the first person to say this but one of the things I love about making art of various kinds is putting in work on something to have a finished "thing." I worked in IT for over twenty years; for all the pixel pushing I did there were very few tangible things I could point to at the end.
