It doesn’t matter how clever my RP is or my ideas are, if the GM is final arbiter of failure or success, none of that matters. The only “skill” is persuading them. In my games the GM is another player with some different rules but not the omniscient arbiter of the game. Sic semper tyrannis.

Years and years of running older editions of D&D and Amber Diceless Roleplaying especially taught me that own thing I really don’t like in TTRPGs is GM fiat.
