I've started working on the indie press article, and have immediately realized that it's more involved than I remember from last time. My 2024 aim was to give a historical overview, which turns out to be significantly easier than a contemporary overview.

I would LOVE to recommission Cate Fox Book 1 and make a new cover. Hell - I'd love to commission someone to make real covers for my entire backlog. The two books before Cate Fox were done with MS Paint and Gimp.

For what it's worth, I think the 80/20 rule goes both ways here. Yes, 80% of the bulk is crap. But I also think it's true that only 20% of the authors are producing 80% of the schlock. Producing good art takes time, and inevitably those books will get drowned out.

1000% I can promise that we will appreciate something very simple, nondescript... heck, you could do a solid color combo that goes with your genre and is literally just SOLID COLOR, and it would be better than the genAI cover slop.

I chose to have a totally non-descript cover rather than one created from the theft of other people’s work. It’s probably costing me sales, but principles don’t just matter when it’s convenient. Plus, if you’re willing to use AI for a cover, how can a reader know you won’t use it in your writing.

Do you want to meet Hekate? You can now. Do you want to see the kings again? Too bad, they're there too. I am so happy with how this book is turning up, the rewrites are delightful, this is exactly what I wanted to write and had to setup with Autumnal Conductor. Wintry Squama is so fun*.

There are, AFAIK, much fewer trade pub releases by transfem authors this year than in the previous. Judging by deal announcements this year, 2027 is going to be even worse than 2026, which is worse than 2025. All the more important to support selfpub transfem authors tbqh.

The downward publishing trend from the high water mark of Spring 2025 continues, unfortunately. This fall is going to have even fewer new releases.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but this may be a contender for the best trans nonfiction of 2026. Hands down the most accessible account of American trans history, with a shocking amount of nuance and depth behind its arguments. I consider myself very well read, and I learned a lot here.

Anyway today's read is the revised edition of Transgender History by @susanstryker.bsky.social. I've read 2ed at least five times, and I got through two chapters at the library earlier. Not much I haven't already said about this book. Pineco seems like a good fit, couldn't explain to you why.

I read this book for the first time recently and definitely recommend! (Also, watch Stryker's doc about the Compton's Cafeteria riot, it's very good.)
