There is no version of yourself you could become that would satisfy the people who hate you. So you might as well be who you are.
This is a good policy, but for me (ymmv!), this does not mean zero sad things. I find plenty of sad things interesting so it doesn't feel like Money For A Bad Time. But I def nope out early on places when the vibe shifts, I don't hate watch/read, and I excuse myself from paying attention to a lot.
Helen Rosner@hels.bsky.social · 3d agoFor a while now my policy across all media has been I Don’t Want To Pay Money To Feel Bad and it’s been pretty great. Plenty of feeling bad for free/getting paid to feel bad for my job to be found elsewhere.
Can we please stop reposting those 'mugshots' of women that are like 'lady does some absurd thing that sounds cool as shit' so people are like 'let women have hobbies' which I first clocked as fake when one of them supposedly took place at the mall I worked at as a teenager it's all slop!

John Scalzi@scalzi.com · 3d agoYeah, Kat Tenbarge was much nicer to Jack Osbourne than I would have been, I would have just told him to go fuck himself. Also, if you're going to accuse a writer or journalist of using "AI" on the basis of em dashes, absolutely positively go fuck yourself.
So: Fuck Max Miller and reminder that abusers are everywhere and demanding accountability is the absolute moral baseline.

(You will take my em dashes, sets of three, and lack of typos from my cold, dead hands.)
Garfield. I had one of the strip collections, an early one from the early '80s, so his design wasn't quite settled yet, and I would compare it with later books I got to see how the comic changed over time.

A hero whose heroism consists of killing people is uninteresting to me, and I detest the hormonal war orgies of our visual media, the mechanical slaughter of endless battalions of black-clad, yellow-toothed, red-eyed demons.
Scapegoats are emotionally cheaper than systems. Blaming the left asks nothing of you. It feels good and righteous and right. Asking whether your institutions and your party failed you requires dismantling beliefs you have spent your lifetime building. That is emotionally expensive.
I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

So I asked them to shut it off And the assistant was like, "Oh, you don't like AI?" And when I elaborated/ranted, she said, "Yeah, I hate it." Then the dentist heard us & said the same thing. NOBODY LIKES IT!!!
I would absolutely keep the name and refer to the cat as HotDog.
