I’m tired after years of FOMOngering from Silicon Valley over NFTs, Crypto, Metaverse, etc, and now AI. I‘m happy to make tech that helps humans feel joy in the real world: delightful experiences, time savers, or relationship builders.

The silence from industry in the face of concerted attacks on US competitiveness has been disgraceful. Will this finally wake them up? Or will they just offshore all skilled work? And yes, this is a constitutional crisis if the executive can apply a “ridiculous fee” veto to any legislation.

The US President's new proposal to tax international students has been approved by the White House for release this week. It's an unprecedented $100,000 tax on int'l grads who stay to work after graduation on Optional Practical Training (most grads do), a crucial bridge to remaining by any channel.

These guys are weird, annoying, and ruining the world. Also they're spending millions on your opponents. They're villains you should be talking about every day

Seems to me a decent component of a national campaign right now would be rescuing tech from the deranged cult of apocalyptic freaks who have conned their way to the top of it

If you’re not potty trained by now you don’t get to be in the pool with the rest of us and we’re not gonna have a civilized debate about it while the water fills up with your filth.

Sometimes society at large rejects certain ideas because they’ve been thoroughly shown to be wrong and also because they suck and the people who espouse them suck and when someone comes around arguing those ideas should be part of some edgy modern debate we can and should shun them and move on.

there's a whole lot going on in "AI discourse" but a lot of it arises from people who work in tech still not getting it that the baseline perception of their work has been shifting hard for at least a decade, from "one of the more positive aspects of society" toward a much more ambivalent view
