Our new review on proteostasis of organelles in aging & disease is now online in The FEBS Journal! We discuss recent insights on how #proteostasis safeguards organelle integrity and function across the cell in #aging and disease doi.org/10.1111/febs...

Cells rely on regulated proteostasis mechanisms to keep their internal compartments functioning properly. When these mechanisms fail, damaged proteins accumulate, disrupting organelles, such as the n....

🧪#Celegans - I am very excited to announce the publication of our latest finding in transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) of learned pathogen avoidance - • C. elegans transgenerational avoidance of P. fluorescens is mediated by the Pfs1 sRNA and vab-1 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

C. elegans transgenerational avoidance of P. fluorescens is mediated by the Pfs1 sRNA and vab-1

C. elegans’ TEI of learned pathogen avoidance is induced by a third bacterial small RNA, Pfs1, from P. fluorescens 15.

Thrilled to announce that our DFG Research Unit on cell-autonomous regulation of proteostasis has been approved for funding!

CECAD Scientists Receive DFG Funding for Proteostasis Research

A new DFG-funded research group investigates how proteostasis is regulated at the organismal level and its impact on aging and disease.

Congratulations to #CECAD Prof. David Vilchez @thevilchezlab.bsky.social on securing #DFG funding for a new research group on organismal proteostasis! This project, involving also Prof. Hoppe, will explore how proteostasis regulates #aging and #disease. @dfg.de #Proteostasis uni.koeln/ZCFFX

Excited to share our latest work! We asked if and how TDP-43 regulates RNA transport in neurons and if this is misregulated in ALS. We found that it works to keep RNAs *out* of neurites, and that loss of TDP-43 activity results in specific RNAs aberrantly accumulating there.

I have no words to express how much I owe to Joan for his mentorship and advice. I became a professor thanks to his unwavering support. For instance, he insisted that I take English courses—and even paid for them—because I didn’t speak English while pursuing my PhD. I will miss you tons 😢😢
