Really excited to have featured on one of my favourite podcasts - Tech Won't Save Us. Big thank you to @parismarx.com for the fabulous questions and great discussion.
The tech industry wants us to believe its products are inevitable and we have no ability to stop them. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. It was great to chat with @thomas-dekeyser.bsky.social about how tech refusal is something we’ve done for hundreds of years — and continues today.

!!! we are starting "Techno-Negative: A Long History of Refusing the Machine" by Thomas Dekeyser this week. this week we're just reading the intro, so you still absolutely have time to get the book ASAP and join us.
Really not convinced by the argument that's surfacing which celebrates AI for its presumed inhumanism (and denounces anti-AI as reactionary humanism). I see AI as the extension and culmination of an increasingly violent humanism. Currently writing on a piece on this, but some initial thoughts: 1/4
Brassier's forthcoming (2027) book FATELESSNESS looks fab. "Fate is never simply what befalls us; it is the consequence of what we have done. [Communism] is simply the abolition of fate, the movement through which we undo the illusion of necessity." www.foyles.co.uk/book/fateles...

As the academic whose book is cited multiple times in this article, I want to make it clear: the data center revolt is great and we need more of it. (Getting a little sick of journalists purposefully misreading my arguments)

Pope Leo XIV's critiques of AI remind me of the 12th C Pope Innocent III who saw in tech "all things vanity[...]as if man’s skill could surpass the art of his Creator.” Even if Leo's cynicism is sharper, anti-tech again becomes a means of extending Christian Humanism. (excerpt from Techno-Negative)

Thomas Dekeyser is a great read on the techno-negative. Oddly enough, he sounds a lot like Walter Benjamin reconsidering “experience” after WWI.
The college grads in open revolt against pro-AI speakers is a reminder that this isn’t about a failure to adopt technology. These students are the first generation to have had language models throughout their college experience. No one wants it. They want an education, not a four year sales pitch.
Today @dairinstitute.bsky.social is releasing the Luddite Lab Resource Hub. The hub hosts case studies, resources, and political education for unions, labor organizations, and workers who want to fight “AI” and automation at work. labor.dair-institute.org

Rather excited to see my book reviewed in the @newyorker.com by the excellent @chaykak.bsky.social. "Dekeyser offers a tidy manifesto that may urge us on: “There is insufficient hatred for this technological world.” I could get a tattoo of that line, or at least use it as my iPhone background."
