It is as if OC43, NL63, HKU1 and 229E did not accept SC2 into the same timeframe. It will be interesting to see if this years SC2 peak is again earlier, from middel September to possibly August, or it may have found the best spot and middle of September is where it settles? 4/4

Should all children be vaccinated against influenza? Most pediatric infectious disease specialists would probably say yes — but universal influenza vaccination for children is still not generally recommended in Germany and many other European countries.

Feeling like the world is spinning out of control? 🌍 There’s plenty to worry about… BUT: even in the last 5 years, global poverty has continued to decline. 📉✨ Progress is possible—and it’s happening.

Our World in Data@ourworldindata.org · 11mo ago

To track progress towards ending extreme poverty by 2030, the United Nations relies on the World Bank to estimate the share of people living below a certain threshold, called the International Poverty Line (IPL).

A chart showing how the share of the global population between different poverty lines has changed since 1990. Extreme poverty (defined as being below the International Poverty Line of $3 a day) has decreased from 43% in 1990 to 10% today. Poverty has also decreased at other thresholds. The data source is the World Bank. The chart is licensed CC BY to Our World in Data.

To express it in a consciously neutral way: Most (if not all) 🇪🇺 countries stopped vaccinating healthy children against SARS-CoV-2 BUT all 🇪🇺 countries recommend these vaccines for pregnant women! Quite incomprehensible from an international perspective. I feel sorry for our colleagues in the US.

Breaking news: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ending his agency's recommendation that healthy pregnant women and healthy children receive the coronavirus vaccine.

“children vaccinated before 8.5 months of age exhibited a markedly faster antibody decay and lost their protective neutralizing antibody levels over 6 years.” So, in times of outbreaks, when infants get an early💉dose to get protection ASAP, they’ll likely still need their 2 scheduled doses later

This is such an important shift. For many years the catholic church withheld support for HPV vaccination which prevents cervical cancer. 119,000 women die from this cancer in Africa every year. This full throated support of the HPV vaxx by the church will help uptake. nation.africa/kenya/health...

We can't remain indifferent to suffering: Catholic Church now champions HPV vaccination

From opposition to advocacy: After dismissing vaccine over promiscuity fears, church now tells faithful early intervention saves lives

Which kids are at risk of severe influenza? Our work on pediatric influenza associated mortality was just published - it was an honor to contribute. 👇 www.jpeds.com/article/S002... Not surprisingly, we conclude "Vaccination efforts should be enhanced to reduce influenza mortality."

Are we ever going to get RCTs to test whether metagenomics improves clinical outcomes, or will it remain a whole load of 'evaluations' that are really just clinical services? What would a trial look like? Tricky given the technology is advancing quickly #IDSky #MicroSky @drmichaelmarks.bsky.social
